THE PROJECT WORK

  • LT: Non-traditional lesson/educational activities in the Seaside regional park

On April 7, project’s “Active in nature, enjoying the nature” team has been acknowledged with the Seaside regional park. Senior ecologist Erlandas Paplauskis conducted interactive lectures on topics “The landscape of the regional park”, “Ecological problems in the regional park” at the Visitor center and educational events at the Litorina cognitive path. During this non-traditional lesson, the project team deepened and consolidated its knowledge about nature, understood what and why it is necessary to protect as well as why nature is becoming more and more important for civilized humanity. During the activities students took pictures and coordinates of the attractions of the regional park. Back in the school they created interactive maps of the regional park using the Skratch program.

    LT: Educational trip

On 3 February, a group of students of Gedminai School studied with a difference – they went to the National Visitor Centre and the Institute of Lithuanian Language. National Visitor Centre is the gateway to the protected areas of Lithuania. During the educational activity here students felt as they were surrounded by nature: grasslands, birds, grasshoppers around them and clouds above their heads. They got to know with the system of protected areas and learned that there are 5 national and 30 regional parks, 3 state natural and 2 cultural reserves, about 300 nature reserves, more than 500 state-protected natural heritage sites in Lithuania. The exhibition helped to understand what and why have to be protected, why ecology is becoming increasingly important to the whole civilized humanity. The exceptional value of national and regional parks and nature reserves has been illustrated with images and specific items. In the Cinema hall students watched a film about the capercailzies and listened to the mysterious sounds of nature in a special chair. Children really liked the laboratory table – question-mark, where various natural riddle are explained with motion pictures; they also played an interactive game about the cormorants. Terminals that provide the information on protected areas helped students to discover special places in Lithuania.

After the natural lessons students had the Lithuanian language lesson in the Institute of Lithuanian language. This is a unique Language Museum which is part of this institute where the latest linguistic information is provided in an attractive and modern form. Students got to know with the archival documents, linguists’ personal belongings and the other authentic material. Students carefully listened how the Lithuanian alphabet was formed; they wrote their own names using special letter stamps. Students were attracted by speech toys - unique exhibits, which allow to touch the language. The language computer games, karaoke of dialects, a special program to learn Lithuanian sign language were very interesting as well.

That day spent without classes and school desks was full of excitement and students learned a lot of new things.
