17. Assessment of the project

  • Teachers can write here what the difficulties were with the project and what were the strengths of the project.

Ülle Kreos, Kuressaare Vanalinna School, Estonia. Difficulties

The most difficult thing for me was that we were in a precarious situation due to the COVID epidemic. Most of the time we were distance learning, some of the children worked with their mobile phones and so cannot work with quality. Since I broke my leg in the beginning of February, went to the operation and was unable to work for more than a month, the work was postponed.
Some students would have needed more individual tutoring, but it was impossible in this situation.

The cooperation between the teachers worked very well, thank you all very much! The teachers made suggestions on how to make our project more interesting - for example, the project participants exchanged Christmas cards, we celebrated Human Rights Day.

Most of the students' work was also excellent and they gained a lot of new knowledge and skills. They learned how to make a map on Google Maps, actively communicated with each other in the project forum on various topics, they know the rules of online behavior. They successfully collaborated with international teams to prepare the trip and the trip presentation and travel budget. They made videos to introduce their home, drew logos and made posters.
Thanks to this project, the students gained a lot of new practical experience and are now able to organize a trip for their family. Their school year and lessons were much more interesting.
    Thank you, all participants!

    Fatma ÖZ (EFFL, Turkey). Difficulties

The most challenging thing for me while working on this project was that our students felt threatened by the covid epidemic and that our schools did not have a fixed schedule.
Depending on the intensity of the epidemic, we sometimes provided distance education and sometimes face-to-face training. Some of my students had difficulties in accessing the internet due to the lack of ICT tools at home due to the number of siblings. They found it difficult to complete their tasks on time. Some of his students could not get used to distance education. For this reason, there were some difficulties in performing their duties.

My students love English and ICT so they studied happily.Their knowledge increased with the project and their sharing with friends was excellent. They have acquired a lot of new knowledge and skills. They used Google tools and various web 2.0 tools. They communicated with each other on the project forum, followed the online code of conduct. They collaborated with international teams for their missions. They prepared videos and project logos for the promotion of their cities using Web 2.0 tools. Playing games about countries made them happy. The students made plans as if they were traveling abroad while sitting at home. They have learned to prepare a budget and plan for travel. There was no chance to socialize at school. The project created an international social space for them. Developing products with each other and with students from different countries was an exciting activity for them during the "Stay at Home" period.

Eleftherna-Katerina Bassi, 4th Glyfada Junior High School, Greece. Difficulties

The main difficulty of this project was that we were working in distance learning through most of the school year, since October, because of the covid-19 pandemic. The students are really tired of working through a pc for so long and it was really dificult to motivate them. Many of them failed to follow the eTwinning activities and their school work in general. This was really sad.

Eleftherna-Katerina Bassi, 4th Glyfada Junior High School, Greece. Project strengths

The teachers of the project collaborated perfectly! We had a really strong team, thank you all! Personally, I learned a great deal from the collaboration with the other teachers, in many areas. I feel richer after this experience!

Eleftherna-Katerina Bassi, 4th Glyfada Junior High School, Greece. Project strengths

The students that worked in this project gained great benefit. All Greek students collaborated in making a video to present their home town and they were very excited.
Unfortunately, because of the distance learning due to the covid-19 pandemic, not all Greek students continued working with zest in the project. But the ones that continued their work gained great benefit.
The main strength of the project was the collaboration in the international teams. The students learnt a great deal from this.
The students gained a lot of experience on how to plan a trip and how to present their work.
The students used many collaborative web2.0 tools and gained a lot of new experience.
Finally, the presentation of their work in the students videoconference was a very important experience from wich they gained enormously. They were all amazing in their presentations. I am really proud.

Maria Goreti Alves (AENG, Portugal) - difficulties

The most challenging thing about collaborating in this project was all the restrictions due to Covid-19. Even when we were at school it was not possible to go to the ICT room or to the library in order to use the computers (limited number of students in this areas). So students had to depend on their smartphones to collaborate in the project. In January we had two weeks without school and then returned to online lessons until the end of March. This break and online lessons weren't favourable to the project and collaborative work, because some students need more support from teacher and classmates. Despite these difficulties many students were successful in their work.

Maria Goreti Alves (AENG, Portugal) - Project strengths (part 1)

The topic of project was itself a strength - students and teachers eager for the return to some normality and travelling makes part of it. The simple idea of not being able to travel to other countries and in some situations to regions inside the country limits our imagination. During the collaboration in this project students were allowed to imagine a travel to an European country and to take part on the planning of this travel. They learnt how to search for a flight and a hotel. They compared prices and chose the best one (price vs quality), shared it with the partners and tried to come to an agreement about the best hotel to stay (price, quality, location). The forums are so rich! Students were able to share ideas and discuss points of view with the partners as well as reach an agreement about many topics.

Maria Goreti Alves (AENG, Portugal) - Project strengths (part 2)

The use of web 2.0 tools for the project's activities (video, games, postcards, map, budget, presentation) was also a strength - students developed their ICT skills.
The online meeting with the students was very successful and it made my students very happy!
The collaboration between the teachers was really good. Having online meetings to evaluate and decide on the project's next steps was very helpfull and gratifying.
Thank you all and I hope we can meet again in another project!

Maria Goreti Alves (AENG, Portugal) - Part 3

We had to overcome some constraints related to the Covid-19 pandemic, which made us reorganise some tasks, but we were able to achieve most of the project’s objectives.
I’m very happy with my students’ contribution to the project. Most of them embraced it, collaborated actively on the tasks and on the forums, as well as they made suggestions for the activities. For some students this was their fisrt eTwinning project.
Thanks to the partners for making this project possible and for the collaboration along this school year! I hope we meet again in another project!
