November activities

  • STEM Day (8th November) and the World Science Day for Peace and Development (10th November)

    STEM Day

The World Science Day for Peace and Development

Exchanging ideas, each school presented their BBC micro:bit (or other robotic kits) activities to other partners.

We shared our outcomes via TwinBoard on this page.

10 of November, World Science Day for Peace and Development

2nd P.S of Nea Erythraia- Lascaris Georgia

Goal 11 - Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. How to use BBC Micro:Bit to detect and react to Earthquake?

2nd P.S of Nea Erythraia- Lascaris Georgia

We challenge the 8th P.S of Nea Filadelfeia: we will share our code, can you make your micro:bit to respond remotely with a sound alarm in case of a earthquake?

II. OŠ Čakovec, Croatia, Iva Naranđa

World Science Day for Peace and Development, 10th November 2020

    Aristotelio College, Thessaloniki, Greece

In order to celebrate Science day students from Aristotelio college created in Google slides a presentation about women scientists.

    Aristotelio College, Thessaloniki, Greece

The presentation in a form of video about female scientists who changed the world.

World Science Day for Peace and Development: 2nd P.S of Nea Erythraia, Greece, Using BBc Micro:bit to detect Earthquakes. Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities. Programming the Micro: Bit to perceive and record seismic vibrations through its sensors, to display them in a graph and thus have a seismograph. Once our seismograph detects suspicious activity, it will produce an audible as well as a visual alarm message, to inform all residents with or without visual or hearing impairments (inclusive cities).

We challenged our partners to extend this action so that our seismograph can send a wireless message to another device that will be distant from the quake site so that all civil protection services can be activated properly.

II. OŠ Čakovec, Croatia, Iva Naranđa

My students created posters on the topic seismology. It was additional activity for homework, after the Micro:bit as seismograph activity (World Science Day for Peace and Development). Here is one poster in English, other posters are on Croatian. You can find them in Materials - Images section. Students used the tool PosterMyWall.

Kr.Valdemars Ainazi Primary School, Latvia, Ineta Lielkalne

Students learned about the lithosphere, earthquakes and volcanoes. They created models of volcanoes and studied the causes of earthquakes.

Germantas progymnasium Telšiai, Lithuania, Lina Lienienė

We participated in the republican competition "Bebras"

    Germantas progymnasium, Telšiai, Lithuania

We received a thank you for participating in the competition "Bebras".

II. OŠ Čakovec, Croatia, Iva Naranđa

Kahoot! quiz: Micro:bit as a seismograph
On the occasion of the World Science Day for Peace and Development (additional activities), questions prepared by students.

2nd Junior High School of Ioannina for Intercultural Education

For STEM Day and the World Science Day for Peace and Development we accept the challenge from partner school: Seismograph with visual signals!

Nada Sokolović, OŠ"Osman Nakaš", Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
    Aristotelio College, Thessaloniki, Greece

We have created a seismograph using the Microbit. When the Microbit is moving an alarm will start on.

    Aristotelio college, Thessaloniki, Greece
