Colegiul National Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Galati, Romania
The Alexandru Ioan Cuza National College is one of the most important schools in Galați, a city situated in the south-east of Romania, by the river Danube. We used to study in an old building until four years ago when we had to move to a different location. Starting this school year there is a second building belonging to our school so there will be classes on two different locations. Our school is quite big, about 930 students studying here every year. They belong to all three school levels-primary, secondary and highschool. Due to the large number of students in our school we have studied in two shifts, with students learning in the morning and students learning in the afternoon. This year, however, is the first school year when all the students of the school will study in the morning as we have two different locations belonging to our school. The students have quite a busy programme. All of them study two foreign languages; it’s either English and German or English and French. They are generally very good at languages.
Our school is very old - it was founded in 1864 and it is named after a very important historical figure, Alexandru Ioan Cuza, a Prince of Moldavia, a historical region of Romania and, later, ruler of the Romanian Principalities. He was a prominent figure of the Revolution of 1848 in Moldavia. He initiated a series of reforms that contributed to the modernization of the Romanian society and of the state structures.
