In European countries Christmas is celebrated on December 25th. In Moldova we celebrate it on January 7th and 8th. The main Christmas tradition in Moldova is caroling. Children gather in groups and go from house to house announcing the Birth of Christ. Walking with the icon is one of the oldest Christmas traditions. It is a kind of service outside the church walls, as on Christmas Eve the priests take the icon of the Nativity to every house in the locality, thus blessing the households.

To my mind, Christmas is a special holiday because i spend it with my whole family. I adore to decorate the house and prepare food for the Christmas meal. My favorite part of this holidays is to choose gifts and to give them to my family, friends.

Christmas!!! In Moldova Christmas is celebrated on January 7 and 8. This is the time when families gather together around a festive table and enjoy the Christmas spirit. Every householder is waiting for the carollers because they believe that the carollers bring to their house wellness and luck. The householders reward the children with apples, nuts, bread, candies and money. Before Christmas, the housewives bake special bread named „craciunei”. They have the form of number 8 and are offered to carolers.
Meanwhile, the householders sacrifice the pig. It happens a day before Christmas. Most dishes on the Christmas table are made from pork, which symbolizes the desire to have a wealthy life. The traditional roast and pork sausage, jelly with meat (racitura), sarmale are served at the Christmas dinner. Do not miss the opportunity to visit Moldova and find out more about our traditions!

Austria - HTL Rankweil - Hubert Winkler - Austrian Holidays

In the PDF Document are named some favourite Austrian Holidays, like Christmas at 24. December, Easter, Labour Day at 1. May, Austrian National Day at 26. October.

Austria - HTL Rankweil - Hubert Winkler - Austrian National Day at 26. October.

The Austrian National Day is celebrated on October 26 and relates to political developments after WW II. After the War, Austria was occupied by the four Allied forces (Soviet Union, United States, Great Britain, and France), who divided the country into four zones. The capital Vienna was also divided in four, with the historic central district being jointly administered by the “Allied Control Council”. Although the Austrian parliament was democratically elected, every legislative regulation at first required consent by the Allied Control Council. The negotiations over a State Treaty putting an end to the occupation could finally be concluded in spring of 1955: the Austrian State Treaty was signed on May 15, 1955, in Place Belvedere and entered into force on July 27, 1955. On October 26, 1955, the Austrian Parliament passed the constitutional law on permanent neutrality, which has been celebrated as the Austrian National day since 1965.

There are six different feasts in Turkey. The two of them are religious feasts, and four of them are national feasts. When national feasts represent the important days in the stages of establishing the modern Republic of Turkey, religious feasts represent the blessed days of the Islamic religion.

In addition to these feasts, the other special days are celebrated thanks to the initiative of civil society organizations such as; March 8 International Women’s Day and March 14 Doctor’s Day. There are celebrations, activities and meetings on these days.
