VISITS TO ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES

On November 3, 2021 the A’ class of the 2nd Gerakas Senior High School visited the Acropolis, one of the monuments included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. "The Acropolis of Athens and its monuments are universal symbols of the classical spirit and civilization and form the greatest architectural and artistic complex bequeathed by Greek Antiquity to the world”( https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/404/ ). The students of our team  had the chance to learn about this site and make videos.

On  the same day the 2nd class of our school visited Ceramicus / Kerameikos, a large district of NW Ancient Athens based on the potters’ (kerameis) quarter. Kerameikos is famous for its cemetery in which members of the most prominent Athenian families were buried . Excavations since 1863  have brought to light temple remnants, columns, statues, and tombs and provided detailed information about Athenian burial customs for over 1,500 years, from the earliest Submycenaean burials (c.1100 bce) to late antiquity
