3rd activity: Talking about Aidos and Dike

After our first FB Chats (about Prometheus Myth), we decided to work on Ambrogio Lorenzetti's Fresco. It seems it could be an extraordinary example to explain the human being and to show the way to build a utopic community. All the ingredients humanity needs to survive and to develop itself (techne, poleis, dike, aidos), are represented on the fresco in an allegoric way.

We've created a poster and we are going to make an Educreation lesson.

Have a look at the poster:

Who are the sisters that help the Old Man sit on the middle of a throne?

What objects are each of these women carrying? Why?

Why is Justice  the most terrible sister?

Cumcordia is the woman sitting at Justice's feet. What's her symbolic object?

Why do you think the citizens are holding a rope? We think it's a very important symbol because it reminds us of something Zeus gave to humanity. Can you tell us what?

In Politeia, Plato writes that the city's walls must be full of frescos and representations that can teach everybody walking on the streets the right values and knowledge necessary to build a good government. What do you think about this idea?
