Module 2: The Transformative Power of Language

  • Module 2: The transformative power of language

    (October/December)

    PREMISE:

Languages and transformation go hand in hand since languages  may be  both objects of transformation, e.g. translation, interpreting, transliteracy,  and  agents of transformation, e.g. negotiation, intercultural dialogue, public speaking

In this Module we will use some of the products created by the students and teachers of the Erasmus +   week in Rome (Oct. 6-12, 2020), to involve all of you

    WARMING UP ACTIVITY:

Watch this video and reflect upon how the international TSOLCH students  in Rome have been able to transform the prose language of the novel "Don't tell me you are afraid" by G. Catozzella, which all of you have read,   into a journalistic footage. This is an example of transliteracy.

    ACTIVITY 1 : PUBLIC SPEAKING

Watch the video of the workshop "Craft you own elevator pitch"  (Rome, 8.10.19)

8.10.2019  Liceo Machiavelli RM  at the JCU , Rome, for the workshop "Craft your Elevator Pitch for global issues!" from Mariella Fasanelli on Vimeo.

    - Write a forum message to a TSOLCH European partner to invite him/her to create  your own elevator speech to support a non-profit organization. Here you have the dedicated forum.

    - After matching, as an  international pair of students choose how to communicate and work together

    - As an international pair, make  a common video named "Our elevator pitch by X and X from X and X" and upload it in Materials->Video->Our elevator pitches

(another useful tool for your work might be the ppt made by the Erasmus+ kids in Rome, see here below)

Get inspiration from the document about different kinds of hate speech

    p. 14 hacking-online-hate-research-report.pdf

    - Write a forum message to a TSOLCH European partner to invite him/her to create a common  slogan to combat hate speech. Here you have the dedicated forum

    - After matching, as an international pair,  choose how to communicate and  work together

    - Finally,  upload the  slogan into the twinboard here below  naming it  "X and X's common slogan to contrast hate speech"
