    12th March 744 Sturmius founds Fulda Monastary.

    754 Boniface is buried in Fulda Monastary.

    791- 819 Ratgar Basilika is built (tallest church north of the Alps at the time).

    818-822 St. Michael's church (Michaelskirche) is built, today one of the oldest still in use churches in Germany.

    1019 Fulda Monastary and the surrounding settlement receive the right to mint and issue coins, to hold markets and to collect tariffs.

    1162 Fulda has a town wall with 5 town gates and 12 towers.

    1208 Fulda receives its town charter and privileges.

    1704-1712 Fulda Cathedral (Fuldaer Dom) is built in the baroque style in place of the old Ratgar Basilika.

    1734 start of Fulda University

    1944 Ca. 1/3 of Fulda is destroyed during air raids.

    1949-1989 Fulda lies close to the border to Eastern Germany (about 30km)

    9th Nov 1989 The border between Eastern and Western Germany opens and after the reunification (3rd Oct. 1990) Fulda lies in the centre of Germany again.
