Arabella will be available at the conference centre from 14.00 on Friday 27 September onwards.
Accomodation
Accommodation is at the conference venue (hotel address above). All bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries.
The hotel has an on-site spa comprising a fitness centre, swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi which delegates may use free of charge, but delegates will need to book and pay for any spa treatments personally (not during conference hours).
All rooms are non-smoking.
There is also a business centre with computers for hotel guests to use and there is free wifi (hotel staff will give you details at check in).
Travel Costs
The British Council will reimburse reasonable transport costs for all UK participants on provision of a completed expenses claim form and receipts. Please note that due to European Commission travel regulations we are not able to reimburse any first class travel, even if it would be cheaper than a regular ticket.
If you have not done so already, we would appreciate it if you could purchase your tickets as soon as possible in order to keep travel costs to a minimum. Please note we are not able to refund any travel costs to delegates who do not attend. The £2 train ticket insurance option (available at point of booking) is only valid for a refund from the named insurers if you can provide evidence that you were not able to travel (for example, a doctor’s note).
If your journey is likely to be in excess of £200.00 please contact Arabella before you purchase your ticket.
Travel Information
Delegates should make their own arrangements for travel to the conference centre.
- Please note that we require anyone arriving by train to take the tram to the hotel and not a taxi. Unless you have mobility problems which you let us know about at registration, we will not be able re-imburse any taxi costs to or from the train station as the tram service is so easy, cheap and efficient.
By road
There is plenty of free parking on-site in the hotel’s multi storey car park which has direct lift access into the hotel. If you indicated that you would be driving to the conference on your registration form the hotel will have been notified of this, but also please let reception staff know when you check in that you have parked in the car park and will require a token in order to exit.
By rail
Nottingham railway station is close to the city centre and there is a very efficient and cheap tram service with a stop directly above the train station. Take a tram towards Phoenix Park and alight three stops later at Royal Centre. From there it is a two minute walk up Wollaton Street to the hotel. You can buy a single journey city centre ticket (called a ‘City Short Hop’) for £1.00 (then you will need to purchase another single journey ticket (‘City Short Hop’) for £1.00 to return to the train station at the end of the conference).
By coach
Nottingham’s Broadmarsh bus station has express coach services to and from London, Edinburgh and many other UK cities. The bus station is only a few minutes’ walk from the city centre and the railway station.
By air
East Midlands airport is approximately 10 miles south of Nottingham, just off junctions 23A/24 of the M1 motorway. The journey by taxi from the airport takes about 35 minutes.
If you need to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel please try and share it with at least two other people. There is a form here where you can communicate with other delegates about arrival/departure times to and from Nottingham and make lift sharing arrangements.
