Plastic Problems on Beaches in Greece

Greece "floats" in plastic. Given the massive use of disposable plastic items and the scarcity of waste management systems, scientists estimate that 4.8 to 12.7 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans each year worldwide. To reduce plastic consumption, Greece introduced a plastic bag fee (4 cents) earlier this year that will continue to increase over time.
A concrete step to the protection of the environment was done now on the island Sikinos: There the plastic straws were banned!
