Christmas is near.....

  • SPANISH CHRISTMAS

At Christmas, Spanish cities like ours are decorated with Christmas trees and lights. At home, we set up trees and Nativity scenes.

Traditional meals in our region (Aragon) include roast lamb and stewed cardoon with almond sauce. As dessert, there are plenty of traditional sweets like "turrón" (nougat) and "polvorones" (a type of shortbread cookie).

In New year's Eve, Spaniards eat twelve grapes with each of the twelve bell strokes at midnight in order to have good luck in the new year.

Here, it is The Three Wise Men who bring presents to children on the night of the 5th of January, after a merry colourful parade in the town centre. In the past years, Father Christmas has also started bringing gifts to the little ones on the night of the 24th of December... which means we are getting presents twice!

It's great to live in Spain!
