The Nutcracker

  • About the "Nutcracker" activities

In early November all partner countries started reading the Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E.T.A Hoffmann in class. We didn’t only aim at improving our students’ linguistic skills but we also wanted to encourage them take iniative in their own learning, broaden their horizons through collaboration with other European students of close age. We used padlet as a common platform where students could put any information they found about the Nutcracker. We also used padlet as a common platform where students could put pictures of the nutcrackers they had  at home.

We enjoyed the music while reading the book and travelled in the fields of imagination. Teams which had the opportunity visited their National Ballet Theatres and watched the Nutcracker’s ballet. They took pictures and enjoyed both the ballet and the music of our national orchestras.

Our students’ teams performed several acts of the play or the whole play at school and they had the chance to have fun and practice English as a foreign language. The Italian team played abstracts of Tchaikovsky’s music. Our students made a lot of drawings inspired by the Nutcracker presented with Prezi and other tools.

We also exchanged pictures of our traditional Christmas sweets to honour the Land of Sweets.
