PROJECT SUMMARY

  • The application of the project proposal “New wave of knowledge in our school” stems from the strong need of the staff of Primary School Nedelišće for improved competences in working with pupils, which are aligned with the demands of contemporary education, as well as from the need for the internationalization of Primary School Nedelišće. Our needs for professional development stem from the situations in day-to-day working with pupils. We have noticed that the classes are not dynamic enough with regard to the modern technologies they use in their free time. The pupils are not prepared to invest the necessary time for studying, the acquired knowledge is not long-term and applicable in everyday life. We have also noticed insufficient level of communication and interaction among the pupils, which is necessary/especially needed in project work and dealing with conflict situations. One of the key barriers in quality inclusive education are insufficient competences of teachers in applying the appropriate support strategies, so pupils lose interest for the classes, since the materials are not sufficiently adapted, and they feel frustrated and lose self-confidence.
Accordingly, the following objectives of our project are to:
    (1) develop the European identity of our school and improve the international dimension of education through the development of the staff’s knowledge and competences required in teaching our pupils in contemporary educational settings
    (2) enhance the level of our staff’s competences, with particular regard to using new interactive and creative teaching methods which will entice the pupils’ critical thinking and be directed to the development of the pupil as a whole
    (3) enhance classroom management skills and teaching processes through activities and techniques that will make learning an active process, with the pupil in the centre of teaching
    (4) develop the teachers’ competences in successful dealing with problems that can occur in communication with pupils and among pupils, as well as in ways of identifying and resolving conflict situations
    (5) raise digital competences of our teachers when using ICT in teaching through the usage of various web tools
    (6) enhance the importance of inclusive education by creating inclusive social and educational environment and values directed towards understanding each pupil's individual needs, with accepting pupils’ differences and offering support
This project would include 6 members of teaching and special education staff.
The following six courses have been chosen: ‘Coaching Paths: a training course for teachers - make education an enlightening experience', ‘Individualized Learning in Swedish Schools', ‘Every Pupil Is Important- Special Education in Finland and in Europe’ ‘ICT and Free Web Tools in Education: Another Way to Teach And to Learn’, ‘Creative and Critical Mind’ and ‘Project Based Learning’.
When choosing the courses, we considered the content, activities and topics which will significantly contribute to our beforehand mentioned needs.
The participants of the project will pay special attention to quality implementation and dissemination of their knowledge and experiences to all members of the school staff, as well as to teachers of other schools on their County Teacher Councils. The realisation of the project will have long-term effects on the active participants, but also on the whole school establishment, particularly the pupils and their parents.
The participants of the mobility will develop enhanced teaching competences and improve the quality of their teaching, to make the teaching material /gradivo more dynamic and interesting to the pupils so they increase their interest, motivation and the active role in acquiring knowledge. The pupils will learn to accept differences, feel more accepted in the school community, identify their jake strane and abilities.
The realisation of this project will also add to creating a modern environment that prepares the pupils for the time they live in.
