My village Richnava

  • My village Richnava.

The first written mention of the village is from 1246. In the 13th century there was already a castle, but it started to be abandoned in the 16th century, leaving only remnants of it. The castle was conquered by the brothers in 1442, who held it until 1460. Near the village is originally a Gothic church of St. Mary Magdalene. The village was burned by retreating German troops in the 2nd World War on January 20, 1945. The village is known especially for one of the largest Gypsy settlements in Slovakia, which is situated on the northern slope of Petrov hora separately from the village.
