The Institute "Nicola Scarano" was born in the school year 2014-15 by combining the two existing Institutes: the school "E. Ciafardini "and lower secondary school.
The school was initially including the municipalities of Trivento, Salcombe, Roccavivara, Pietracupa, San Biase and, in the 70s, it had about thirty-five complexes. The lower secondary school in those years had many classes too.
In Trivento there were also the Institute of Science, the Technical Institute for Surveyors and the Agricultural Institute.
Over the years, due to the sharp decline in the birth rate, the number of schools has greatly reduced and, except for the nursery school that has gradually increased its sections.
In the school year 1998-99 the Science and Tech Lyceum was finally established and, in the school year 2002-03 it was combined with the lower secondary school to form the first Istituto Omnicomprensivo "N. Scarano "of Trivento.
In the S. 2010-11, due to the national schools reform, technological address has been replaced by the High School of Applied Sciences, which is a High School focused on scientific subjects, like Biology, Chemistry, ICT, Maths, Physics and on the English language. Our students are interested and very keen on communicating and interacting with other cultures, to improve their English skills and discover other country lifestyles and learning process. The school is provided with the latest technological equipment, like interactive whiteboards, a modern IT laboratory and a computer in each classroom. This is because the head teacher takes care of the school and the wellbeing of the students. Unfortunately, despite the beautiful Italian surrounding hill setting, Trivento is in a small agricultural area, a bit far from the main big cities and the main touristic tours. The town is in Molise, one of the poorest regions in Italy, that suffers from lack of facilities, a high rate of unemployment and, as a consequence, a new trend involving a large number of young people who move to richer parts of Italy, and even abroad, in search of a job.
