Guidelines for the creation of the comic book

  • Dear colleagues,

Some of the tasks below will be supervised by myself and others, probably by my colleague, in graphic design.

With my colleague, we discussed about the format of the page and of course this has to be the same for everyone. I think the easiest format to print and assemble would the A4 format (so we will use A3 pages that we will fold). The goal is to assemble each chapter done by each school into one book. But if we do a lot of pages we will have to think about the assembling that can be more difficult.

Here are the guidelines with some deadlines. You can, of course , adapt it to your schedule.

    From september to april

Photos are taken  (by myself mainly but some can be added by the students) during :

    • A course at their workshop

    • A visit to the museum (exhibition about René Goscinny)

    • An eventual visit to the Louvre museum

    • An eventual trip to Nantes (East of France)

    • The open days of the school

    • The annual cross-country running of the school

    • The international day event of the school

This seem large, but there is a probability that some of these events won’t happen. The students might also participate to other events.

    Through activities about English

    After each

    event during the class

    (15 minutes)

Selection of the pictures with the students

I think I will limit this to three  (maximum 5 per event). But it can be one or two pictures, also.

    March

    (1 hour)

Gathering, reordering the pictures and studying.

    • collection of all the pictures taken

    • Reordering the pictures

    • Try and selection of the filter used

    • Study of some examples of cartoons with a lot of text ( ex : blake and mortimer)→ the goal is to make the students understand that depending on the length of the text , the bubble will be larger and can hide the pictures. The solution can the re-sizing of the pictures on the page.

There is a possibility that by march , I won’t have the pictures of all events, so what I will do, is adding them myself  to the whole work with the filter and the text.

    Me (English Teacher)

I will share a  picture of the students with the name of the filter used so we can all use different filters. That will make a more beautiful result once all the parts will be assembled.

    March

    (1/ 1h30 hour)

    Writing the bubbles

    • Student are divided into small groups

    • Pages printed containing the pictures  will be given to the students

    • Students work in their native language about what will be in the bubbles.

    Me (English teacher)

    March

    (1/1h30 hour)

Sizing the pictures and translation of the content of the bubbles.

    • We all choose the approximate size of the picture according to the content.

    • Students are divided into small groups and translate the content of the bubble.

The size has to be approximate, because this will determine the layout of the page which will be done with my colleague

    Me (English teacher)

I will share some pictures with the bubbles on it.

    March / April

(They have a class of 4 hours, so this might take two sessions)

    Creating the final layout

    • Students apply the filter to each pictures.

    • They decide what goes on each page

    • They apply the bubbles with the content

An additional page has to be created with the “Authors of the work”

I think that to make the work quickier, the class can be divided.

My colleague will use “Photoshop” , “Illustrator” and lunapic.com

    My applied art colleague,

We will send our final work to each partner so they can print it with their work.

    April and May

Reception of our etwinning partners work and printing

    • We collect the work

    • Assemble the pages

    • We add a cover

    • Students print the whole document.

We could do a similar cover? What do you think?

    My applied art colleague.

We share the result on eTwinning.
