Italy – City Camp 18-24 Nov. 2018 -- Report
Last November form the 18th to the 24th we had our Erasmus City Camp here in Italy at Liceo Scientifico Linguistico “Ceccano” hosting our German, Finish, Spanish and Danish Partners, five foreign students from each country accompanied by one or two of their teachers, allowing them to experience by learning, working and creating together in person. It was a great opportunity for all the students to share a wonderful period communicating mainly in English not only for school work, but for whatever they needed to say to one another. During this week each foreign group presented to the other groups their project for “Sustainability” to safeguard our environment. The Germans talked about “Bee-Wax” and the products how it can be used to make cloth-like paper to wrap up food. The Finish presented ways how to recycle paper and produce decorated designed sheets. The Spanish how to make ecological “Iron-ons” on clothing. The Danish showed everyone how to make furnisher from wooden pallets. We, the Italian group, presented one of our local agriculture products, the “Olive Oil” and the cultivation of the “Olive Tree”, First we illustrated how importance of olive oil, its use in our everyday diet and what precious products can be derived from it. We had an Oil expert give a day conference and teach us how to recognise different types of olive oil and the quality by making us learn by actually tasting it ourselves. The third day we had a school trip to a local oil mill in a neighbouring town and saw the whole cycle of the production of the olive oil procedure from the oil itself, cleaning, selecting, grinding and finally to the bottling. The fourth day we went to Rome where we were invited to a conference at the European Parliament Offices to see and talk about what the European Union Parliament is doing about “Sustainably” and about what the next European Elections has in store for next spring.
The final day we had our “WorkShops” where all the students from every country split up and reformed a new group made up of a student from every other country and worked together to create a product that was introduced by each foreign group. The students enjoyed themselves very much working together and sharing their creative ideas by actually making something that can be considered “Sustainability”. The students are looking forward to the next city camp in Germany next February.
