In addition to being part of Els Ports Natural Park and Natura 2000 Network, Els Estrets is also a Wildlife Reserve and an Area of Geological Interest. The area is owned by Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera. Birds of prey nest in the conglomerate walls and millstones and we find several species of rock plant there. The presence of a permanent watercourse means there are fishes and invertebrates here that are not found anywhere else in Els Ports. We recommend starting at La Franqueta, but if you prefer a shorter hike, you can start at Lliberós car park. This is a very easy and perfectly flat trail; all you have to do is to be clear about what time you have to head back, as it is linear.
