Evaluation

  • In November 2017 the workgroup at Volksschule Rötzergasse conducted a little survey on experimenting with students in order to fit the needs of the teachers of the institution.

Here are the results of the questionnaires filled in anonymously by 23 teachers:

As seen in this graphs, there is a lack of confidence in conducting experiments with students and the supply of materials shall be promoted, especially within the project period. Very interesting though is the number of experiments conducted during the previous school year - the number is very low. The project has to obviously put that part in focus at Volksschule Rötzergasse.

On June 20th, 2018, the questionnaire was handed out again at Volksschule Rötzergasse. The goal of this second evaluation was to find out, if the results have changed after a year of intense project work.

This time the questionnaire was filled in by 20 teacher, again anonymously.

The data shows significant positive changes, especialls in the fields of self confidence and knowlegde of experiment materials in school. We succeded in raising the awareness for the importance of experiments in class.

Question Nr. 3 shows that teachers have started to use own materials to conduct experiments in class more often. The use of school materials, on the other hand, has slightly dropped. One of the reasons could be, that this years focused on awareness rising. We also started to work on the existing school material to make it more attractive to use, therefor we started to create new teaching materials and instructions. This took the whole school year and is not finished yet.

Still, it is a process, but seeing the data we are optimistic to reach even that goal.
