Language meets Science Education.
Within a strategic school partnership between Osnovna škola Jurja Dobrile and Volksschule Rötzergasse students are improving their competences in the fields of science and language. We are looking forward to exchanging information, uploading project results, videos and communicating with each other!
During school year 2017/18 both schools will have a focus on natural science, the topic will be present for all pupils and teachers. Teaching methods and materials will be introduced to all teachers at conferences or teacher meetings. "Language Explores +" aims to get in touch with all teachers and pupils of both partner schools. Intense work with the partner school on the project TwinSpace, via mail and e-mail, working on videos, presentations and final products will be available to a more limited group of pupils. Several classes from both schools will contribute to those activities. Mobilities to the partner school will affect 14 pupils and 8 teachers in total. Teachers will be chosen because of their involvement in the project as the mobilities for the teachers will be used to adapt and plan the project, to get to know the partner school and partners in person and to gather and develop ideas for further project activities.
Both partner institutions are expecting increased motivation and creative impulses for language and science education through the successful implementation of "Language Explores +". Their international network will be extended, further experience in project management will be gained and the European Dimension at the partner schools will be strengthened. Educational equality for all students regardless of their socio-economic background shall be approrached. "Language Explores +" is, amongst others, expected to reduce the gender gap in natural sciences in both partner schools. Still many girls are affected by traditional gender roles and don`t dare to engage in those fields, which is later visible in choice of degree or job. The project is also aiming to broaden pupils` and teachers` horizonts concerning interest in natural sciences, implementing hands-on approaches in science teaching and supporting to set up pools of project-specific materials and literature.
