Here are some Celtic symbols and images that my students have made

Celtic symbols, like the rest of ancient cultures have their own meaning, some associated with war, as the strength, good luck and protection warriors, or life and family as is the case of the symbols of love, fertility and motherhood. Although Celtic art dating from 400 BC until the Iron Age in 1200, their symbols still performed in the present, not only in body art tattoos, but also as inspiration for contemporary artistic works, since a the foundations of celtic art is precisely geometric abstraction and it is time for our students start to  create their own designs from Celtic inspiration.

    January 22nd, 2015

At  Ntra Sra de la Antigua School in Mérida we were working Celtic spirals this morning. We looked for information about Celtic Spirals and then we were painting them. These are the results:

The spiral was found on many Dolmans and gravesites. Its true meaning is not known for sure, but many of these symbols were found as far as Ireland and France. It is believed to represent the travel from the inner life to the outer soul or higher spirit forms; the concept of growth, expansion, and cosmic energy, depending on the culture in which it is used. To the ancient inhabitants of Ireland, the spiral was used to represent their sun.

Today we have  been drawing  Celtic crosses with Teresa in the Art Class. Tomorrow our fellows from 5th group will work this theme with Susana, our Catholic Religion teacher.

The Celtic cross is a religious icon that combines a Christian cross and many of them have a circle surrounding
    the intersection.
It goes back to the early days of Christianity in Ireland.
A popular legend in Ireland says that the Celtic Cross was introduced by Saint Patrick or other Irish saint for
the evangelization of the pagans of the island.
It also says that St. Patrick joined circular sun or moon Christian symbol representation , thus linking the
meaning of the cross pagan spirituality to better convey your message .
