    Sunday 15.10.2017

    1.      Arrival of all partners in Bucharest and visit of Mogosoaia Park and its 18th century Bibescu Palace. There we could admire roses beds and many beautiful old trees. From the entrance to the main park of Mogosoaia Park (the Palace), we learned about the main attractions of the Brancoveanus’ Domain: "St. George" Church, the Gate Tower, the Kitchen, the Palace, the Guest House. The entrance to the Palace Court was made under the Tower of the Gate, built in 1702, and  two times restored to be the way we see it today. Those who wanted to take pictures of the Domain, climbed by the side of the Guest House, where there is an external access staircase. The garden of the Domain (or the „English Park”, as it is called) was conceived as a huge labyrinth. Several banquets are located on the shore of the lake, and the pleated ditches that guard the area complete the enchanting décor enjoyed of the Domain. Students were taking photos of some monuments of nature, of the lake and the Palace.

    1. We left the hotel very early to get to Craiova.
    2. There we visited the Museum of Science and Planetarium. Our guide told us about the fossils of prehistoric animals. At present the collection has 16340 pieces (plants, invertebrates, vertebrates), the majority being discovered on the territory of Oltenia. Remarkable are the mammalian fossils (equines, bovines, cervids, carnivores etc.) discovered in Bugiulesti (Valley of Grăuncean, Vâlcea County, Pliocen superior), the cave bear discovered at Muierilor Cave, Baia de Fier locality, Gorj County, assigned to the higher Pleistocene, or those of the Romanian mollusks discovered in the vicinity of Craiova, Podari and Bucovăţ. The collection contains over 200 proboscidian molars (Anancus arvernensis, Mammuth borsoni, Mammuthus rumanus, Mammuthus meridionalis, Mammuthus trgontherii, Mammuthus primigenius). Emblematic for the museum are the reconstructions of the mastodon skeleton (Anancus arvernensis) discovered in 1928 in Stoina, Gorj County, of the Ursus spelaeus cave skeleton from the Muierilor cave (1929), of the mastodont mandible (Mammuth borsoni) at Veleni, Dolj county.

Oltenia is one of the most representative biogeographical areas in Romania. Oltenia's territory is concentrated in a wide variety of ecosystems (terrestrial and aquatic), which encompasses most categories of plant and animal associations.

The most important exhibition is on the first floor "Physico-geographical conditions and Oltenia’s  ecosystems". In the exhibition windows, the fossils discovered exclusively on the territory of Oltenia are arranged in a systematic order, being a true history of life on these lands. Plants or animals, small or gigantic, terrestrial or aquatic, beetles or quadrupeds, the fossils of Oltenia impress by their great diversity, through the great number of discoveries, as well as by their special scientific value.

Stoina Mastodont - an emblematic piece for the museum, the cave of Baia de Fier cave, the Leu mammoth, are irresistible attraction points for visitors, and Bugiulesti fossil mammals were and are still quoted by scientists from country and abroad.

In Planetarium we listened to the lecture about the origin of the universe and the Solar System. The Universe and Our Solar System exhibition occupies an area of 250 square meters and is located on the second floor of the Natural Sciences Section. The exhibition space consists of two halls. In the first room are exposed scientific information about the origin and organization of the Universe: galaxies and clusters of galaxies (including our Milky Way - our galaxy) stars, constellations, Solar System (Sun and planets revolving around Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto).

Particular attention is paid to planet Earth and its natural satellite Moon, as well as to other celestial bodies in the Solar System: asteroids, meteorites and comets. The exhibits of attraction are represented by the three pieces of the meteorite that fell in Sopot, Dolj, on April 27, 1927. The end of the exhibition is represented by space research and the exploration of the cosmic space. In the second room the trip to the universe leads us to the Planetarium, where through the 5 shows the visitor can admire the dynamic image of the celestial vault, the sky map, a virtual journey among the stars, constellations, planets, asteroids.
