Work with your students and write self-poems and/or poems related to friendship. If your students write them in their mothertongue please provide a translation so as to understand them!
Below I give you a suggested lesson plan to follow (if you feel like to:-)
Materials
1. Several adjectives written on small pieces of paper folded and placed in a jar. The adjectives should be related to personality traits both positive and negative. http://adjectivesstarting.com/ is a site with a huge selection of adjectives and their meanings that could be of value to you and your students.
2. http://www.wordclouds.com , http://www.tagul.com , http://www.wordle.net/ or any other word cloud generator
Procedure
1. Get students in groups and ask them to decide which adjectives from the ones given have positive and which have negative meaning. Encourage dictionary/ internet search in case they don’t know the meaning of all the adjectives you have given them.
2. Get feedback from students and ask them to write acrostic self-poems using their names and as many of these adjectives as possible. For example My self poem would be as follows:
Alternatively, students can use wordclouds.com, tagul.com or any other word cloud generator to create word clouds in shape of a fish using as many of the adjectives as possible that apply to their personalities and their disposition to friendship.
Always make sure you share your poetry with the rest of us IN ENGLISH!
Finally, we can put all poems together and make a unique poem collection in a form of an ebook with all our students contribution.
The collection could be entitled: 'Friends above all: poems from students all over Europe'
We could share our poems collection on our school's webpage
Looking forward to your students' creativity
