    Our school was founded in 1986 as Multi-directional Senior High School and in 2000 its name changed to 6th Senior High School of General Education. The school is situated by the sea, near the center of the town and close to the port.

    Kavala, our hometown, is a small town in the region of eastern Macedonia, in Northern Greece. This year the number of students that attend the school are 358, aged from 15-18 and there are 39 teachers of all the school subjects taught. Our students’ families are people of average to high income, and due to our hometown’s location, there are also students that are immigrants from Albania, Russia etc.

    The academic performance of our students is very high and this is clearly depicted in the great number of students that achieve excellent marks in their report cards and also in the great number of students that enter University, especially in highly demanding Schools like Law School or Medicine School and in other Schools where special skills are required like the Arts School.

    Competitions

    Our students also take part in various educational competitions run by the Greek Ministry of Education and other Educational Organizations such as:

    1. The National Competition in Mathematics named “Thalis”,

    2. The National Competition in Physics run by the Greek Physicists Association

    3. The Natural Sciences Competition run by the University of Athens

    4. The National Competition in Biology run by the Greek Bio scientists Association

    Our students have also taken part in European Competitions and have achieved high scores and distinctions such as the “Euroscola” Competition. In this competition every year our students compete with other students from the wider region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the winners participate in the daily seminar organized by the European Parliament in Strasburg, France.

    Another European program that our students take part is the program called “Let’s become European Members of Parliament” run by “Direct Europe” in Komotini, Greece. In the past some of our students have visited the European Parliament in Brussels.

    Our school took part in the 3rd Educational Symposium of Phycology held in 2014 presenting the work of some of our students entitled “Discovering the properties of algae through their names”, where they were awarded a prize for the most inventive subject.

    In the competitive part of the 13th European Meeting of Audiovisual Creation “Camera Zizanio” of the 16th International Film Festival for schoolchildren and teenagers, the school’s film team was awarded the special prize of the Organization for Children’s Rights “The Children’s Attorney” for the movie “Fortuna Vitrae est” that was created in the school under the framework of programs related to career studies.

    Four of our school’s teachers have won the “Prize of Excellence in the Educational Process” by the Greek Ministry of Education for Primary and Secondary Education. (We attach the relevant poster)

    In the school, we run programs concerning Career Studies and through these programs, we have been publishing the school’s magazine for more than 25 consecutive years. In a national competition run by one of the most credible newspapers in Greece “The News” our school was awarded the prize for “The Best Layout of Students’ Magazines”.

    The school’s film team have also created the following movies: “The Almond of the World” (2012), “Fortuna Vitrae Est” (2013), “About Friendship” (2014), “School Trip” (2015) “Fortune Cookies” (2016). The Short Film of the 6th General Lyceum of Kavala "Why?" received the Media Award awarded by the Educational Television of the Ministry of Education, in the 20th International Olympiad for Children and Young People and the 17th European Youth Audiovisual Meeting.

    Our school’s theatrical team have presented quite a few theatrical plays: “The Park” (2013), “Of the Dead Brother” (2013), “The poet’s Enemy” (2014), “Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme” (2016).

    The school’s orchestra and choir are very active indeed and have organized plenty of musical performances not only in our hometown Kavala but also abroad participating in different music festivals.

    In particular, they participated in the 4th Choir Festival that took place at Zografio Senior High School in Istanbul in 2013. They also sang Greek songs and danced Greek dances at Baloukli Retirement Home in 2014 in Istanbul, they collaborated with choirs of other schools in the 2nd Hatzidakeio Festival in Xanthi in 2015. They, also, participated in “Schools’ April” of Municipality of Kavala in 2013 and 2014, they sang at various Retirement Homes and special educational foundations in Kavala, they also took part in festive Christmas happenings of Municipality of Kavala in 2015 and 2016. In April 2016 they organized a concert by the title “Rebetopianissimo” accompanied by Kostas Bakirtzis at the piano. Finally, last year, they participated in the music concert “Byzantine Routes” that was held in Philippi, Kavala, in order the archaeological site of Philippi to be part of the Monuments of International Heritage of UNESCO.

    The school’s orchestra and choir are directed by Mrs Mouratidou Christina since they were founded in 2011.

    As far as sports are concerned, our students take part in both individual and team sports in athletics and table tennis on a national and international level. Our school’s basketball, volleyball and table tennis teams have won Cups in School Championships both regional and national.
