WINTER CELEBRATIONS and CUSTOMS in BELGIUM
Wheat is sown on the feast of St. Lucia and grows until Christmas. According to tradition, wheat is decorated on Christmas with the colors of the Croatian tricolor, mainly by tying a red-white-blue ribbon around it and placing a candle in the middle. Depending on how the wheat would germinate, such would be the crop in the fields next year. Wheat is considered a symbol of fertility, renewal and new life
