Analysis of circular economy start-ups

  • Circular economy

Climate change is forcing us to redesign every element of our take-make-waste system. We need to rethink how we use resources, how we make and use products and what we do with the materials afterwards.

The circular economy gives us the tools to fight climate change together. The following two videos introduce the concept of the circular economy.

    Circular economy start-ups

The circular economy approach offers European start-ups broad opportunities for innovative and profitable business models.

For start-up business models there are four core areas along the classic life cycle of products.

    • use of renewable input and increase resource efficiency
    • product sharing
    • maximizing product lifespan: repair, refurbish or redistribute products
    • recycle waste for circular use

The following information sheet gives you more detailed informations about each of these areas.

The four sub-pages of this page on the TwinSpace list examples of start-ups active in each of the four core areas

    Your Task

Build national mini-teams and decide on one of these start-ups and analyse it. Of course, you can also look for your own example of a circular economy start-up in one of the for core areas and then analyse it.

Explain the following points in your company analysis:

    • What is the company's business model and how does it contribute to the circular economy?
    • What products, services and support does the company offer?
    • How do you rate the company's business model
In your opinion, are there sufficient customers for the company's offer?
      W
ould you like to try out the company's offer yourself?
    • Where do you see further room for improvement for the company's concept?
    • What recommendations would you make to the management on how they should further develop the company?

You can present the results of your analysis to the other partner students in a PowerPoint presentation or a video, for example. Of course, you can also choose a different format for the presentation of the results.

Then upload the results to the corresponding TwinBoard on the corresponding subpage.

Also be prepared to be asked questions about your results in the forum.

You can find your task also in this document.
