COLEGIUL ECONOMIC "PINTEA VITEAZUL" - ROMANIA

  • Colegiul Economic "Pintea Viteazul" operates in an economically-disadvantaged area, namely, a former mining centre. Cavnic used to be a mono-industrial town and once the mine was closed, in December 2006, this caused a significant rise in of the unemployment rate as the mine was the main employer for the inhabitants. Since 2007, the town has been developing into a touristic resort due to the fact that it has touristic potential through its geographical location (at the feet of the mountains), its long winters and the ski slopes that were built by the local authorities.

Our school comprises all levels of education, from pre-school to secondary school. There are about 600 students altogether, about 130 being enrolled in the secondary level. In response to the present requests and tendencies on the local labour market, our school adapted its schooling offer and now we train students in the field of tourism (technician in tourism, hotel receptionist), food services (cook, banqueting organizer). Starting with the year 2015 we also have professional classes for 3 years in the same fields, with specialties such as waiter or cook.

Unfortunately, many of our students come from financially-challenged families: their parents are either unemployed or retired (with small pensions), or they earn the minimum wages. There are also many parents who have gone abroad in search for a better job, leaving their children with grandparents or with their siblings.
