IES San Pedro de Alcántara is located in a rural town called Alcántara, made up of about 1600 inhabitants. It is set in the province of Cáceres and in the border with Portugal.

It comprises Compulsory Secondary Education, Bachillerato and two Professional trainings for medium level of administration and computing. Three Foreign Languages are taught: English, French and Portuguese. The faculty consists of 42 teachers and there are about 232 enrolled students this school year, aged 12-18 years old. Our institution instructs young people from 9 different nearby villages comprising an operational range of around 1700km2. All these localities are lacking population, have scarce cultural offer and a high emigration rate.

Our motivations to join this project match widely with its objectives:

    1. Internationalization of our school

    2. Understanding and knowledge of other cultures and develop students’ sense of European citizenship and identity.

    3. Deeper understanding of the new educational trends and collaborative work

    4. Improvement of the educational quality and prestige of our school

    5. Development of linguistic competence in foreign languages both in students and teachers

    6. Wider rural-area development by making students aware of the importance of their own cultural heritage.
