European Week of Sport

  • ESTONIA

Antsla Gymnasium celebrated the European Week of Sports. Years 1-3 and 4-6 had relay races, Years 7-12 had an orienteering competition around our hometown.

It is an annual tradition in our school. In addition to the sports week, our school organises Aksel Kersna memorial competitions in track-and-field events where other schools from our county can participate, too. Aksel Kersna was our headmaster (1976-81) who contributed a lot in order to improve sports facilities in Antsla. Since then doing sports has been very popular in our school.

The European Sports Week "Be Active" is an initiative of the European Commission that is organized every year to encourage and promote a healthier lifestyle with physical exercise and physical activity. As part of this initiative and the measures to limit the coronavirus, the students of our school went hiking in the natural environment and were informed about the flora of our area. Sports activities followed in the yard of our school. The aim of the actions was to adopt a more active lifestyle of children, to motivate them to any kind of physical activity and to improving fitness and enhancing well-being .
