eTwinners in professional roles.
"eTwinners as pros" is an interdisciplinary eTwinning project which gives 11-year-old pupils the opportunity to take on different professional roles such as Historians, Astronomers, Cooks, Technologists, Engineers, Journalists, ICT Teachers and Athletes. The students study school coursebooks and browse online multimedia resources to learn more about the world around us and cover a variety of topics, from technological innovations, cars and books to computer animation films, celestial bodies, traditional games and recipes. The students share this knowledge and put it to practice in hands-on tasks creating models of inventions or car replicas or co-creating digital works such as timelines of events, eBooks of stories, galleries of technological mechanisms and many more.
The project's originality lies in the combination of two themes within one project. Obviously, there is the project idea of professional roles as outlined above. There is also the eTwinning annual theme of Media Literacy which runs throughout the project in the form of diverse activities and the use of various tools. Focusing on digital citizenship issues such as eSafety, Copyright, Netiquette, fake news and disinformation, the Media Literacy theme sets off with the "Digital Citizens" activity and proceeds with the core activity of Journalists-ICT Teachers. The latter lasts a trimester and reaches its peak when project students turn nationally-accomplished learning outcomes into teaching material and use it for international peer teaching sessions.
Around these two axes, the goal of empowering the students to become independent learners is interwoven. Right from the beginning student agency is of high value, thus becoming intrinsic to every phase of each activity involving the students in selecting topics and deciding on the type of activities. Given choice and voice, the students feel empowered to express their ideas, choose their course of action and shape the project themselves.
Apart from being the professionals they wish, the students also pursue the path of "professional eTwinners" who
- interact in the TwinSpace forums, in the TwinMail, on each other's walls or using various digital tools,
- work together in the physical and/or the online class in their national and transnational teams,
- share a piece of their mind and evaluate the project activities,
- select the project experiences they wish to put in a time-capsule to be opened in 2035, namely the time they will be about to start their professional lives.
In other words, communication, collaboration and evaluation tasks are meant to show the students around the TwinSpace and help them to develop 21st-century skills & competences while building eTwinning expertise. To ensure long-lasting learning outcomes assessment is ongoing and fun with games and quizzes covering all the material taught and learnt.
