STEAM in Fairy tales (November)

    We read the fairy tale "Pinocchio" sent by Esra Ozturk. Challenge - we colored the character, made Tangram-Pinocchio and taught him to speak.

                                jig saw planet puzzle for ugly duck story

     

            We read the fairy tale The Ugly Duckling.
        Then we draw circles of different sizes on the yellow paper
        and cut it. We folded some of our cut dairies by 2 and some by 4.
      We combined it on a rectangular paper in a duck shape and made our
      art activity. We learned circle and rectangle from mathematical
      concepts. we learned exactly the whole half from fractions.
      With the jigsaw we made, we did piece-by-piece work using technology.

    We read the Acorns tale and then watched it on the smart board.

     

    Then we went out into nature to study the leaves, nature, cones and acorns. Colors shapes scents and textures were wonderful in nature.

    We grouped by collecting leaves, cones, acorns

     

    in nature, high-low, open-closed, big-small and so on. we did concept studies and number studies.

     

     

    What is a mandala, how it has rules, we learned in nature. And together we made natural mandala from natural materials

     

    When we got back to class we danced and sang with acorns

    we grouped by two from math activities with acorns

    We did number matching studies

                      

    We made a mandala painting activity with the color mandala application.

    We read the story of my camp friend Kızılay.
    Turkey's Kızılay aid organization.
    Kızılay week is celebrated in November every year.
    After the story with sharing and cooperation content,
    the children played role-sharing. They designed the
    Kızılay Tent from fabric,
    as an engineering study.
    How many injured there are,
    what do they need etc, they made calculations on the table,
    as a math activity, art activities, slogans etc.

    We read the story of snow white and the Seven Dwarves,chatted about the tale, and talked about what we were going to do for our Steam plan.Ideas were shared to get snow white out of the hands of the Witch, and we implemented our solutions.

    From our play dough, we made Snow White's house with the Seven Dwarves.We planted boosters in our house to find ways to get rid of the witch. and they wanted Snow White to be happy with the Prince.

    at our last stage, they painted the prince and Princess, reviving their happiness in the paintings of painters.

    The Pinocchio tale was read. 

    Pinocchio's effort to be human was discussed and a puppet was made.

    We gifted a tractor to the farm owner, 
    who affectionately explained the value of the work to him,
    and redesigned the tale in three dimensions.

    Engeenering: They built the houses of the pigs to re-tell the story.

     

    They read the story, ''The Wind and The Sun by Ezop''

    Science:They made an experiment with an empty bottle, balloon and a bowl of hot water. They observed how the wind really happens.

    They read the tale, ''Red Riding Hood'.

    I created a different version of the story for the activity and They discussed these questions on:

    ''How can this girl arrive her home whithout getting caught by the wolf?''

    ''Will the girl be camuflaged as another animal or blend into its surroundings?''

    Engineering: They made her way  and created some camuflage things with common work and told the story again.

    RAPUNZEL FAIRY TALE STEAM

    SIENCE/MATHS/ART- ı told the children the fairy tale as they chose at the beginning of the project. They made some worksheets about the numbers and colors. They measured the Rapunzel's hair on worksheets. They made drama activity by displaying Rapunzel theatre.

     

    TECHNOLOGY/ENGINEERING- The students took photocopies of worksheets by learning how to use the photocopy machine. They build the castles on worksheets and they experienced braiding hair of the princess by using ropes.

    THE LIAR SHEPHERD STEAM

    ART/ MATHS/ENGINEERING-We talk about the fairy tale and the tacher read them the story. Then we decided to make a music studio and compoe a song about the fairytale.The students made some colorings of instruments and notes and made a music studio. They composed a song there. We have talked about the numbers of notes and names of them.

    SCIENCE/TECHNOLOGY- The students experimented the small piano and a headphone. They made some rhytms with the piano while singing the song and they experimented the laodness of the rhytms by using the headphone.

    UGLY DUCKLING STEAM

    ART/SCIENCE/MATHS- The teacher told the story and they have done the hats of the heros by using papers. They made patterns by using the hats. They use the pictures of the heros while talking about the natural events and the ugly duckling's difficult adventure in the nature.

    TECHNOLOGY/ENGINEERING- The students made a film studio in the nature by using the pictures of the heros in the story and they experiment how to use a camera.They have taken photos and videos for their fairy tale film.

Kose Bose is a small bird, and the fox deceitfully wants to eat the eggs.                                                                                                                                                       Science: we learn the names of forest animals and birds, way of life.
    Art and engineering: we do theater because we are good artists. We color and turn the characters of the fairy tale into 3D models. We use the application Quiver Vision.

    This time we read fairy tale "Fox and the cheese" and took two engineering challenges for kids:

    1. To make a tree for crow from LEGO;

    2. To make ladder or stairs for fox, because she must reach the crow.

    One more fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast". In fairy tale in read that Beaty and the Beast in lived in the castle. We talked about castles, what they can be. We tried to build the castles from wooden sticks and marshmallows.

    The Tale of the Ugly Duckling. The children listened to the fairy tale, discussed it. He was then given the task of making a bird's nest that would hold at least one egg. But before that, the teams were looking in nature for the items they needed to roll the nest. When they found them, they had to take a picture. Fun, experiential activities :-)

    Activities with fairy tales move from kindergarten to home. So one girl had the idea for Cinderella to build a castle from the fairy tale "Cinderella".
