     I told Imdi Dede, one of the Anatolian tales, to my students. In this tale, there was a cat stuck in the street. "What can we do for this cat?" I asked. They designed houses for cats with lego and blocks. At the end of the events, we listened to the song Imdi Dede. We talked about safer places for animals and what we can live.

    The Autumn Fairy Tale

    The Fairy Tale „Pagrandukas“ (bun). After reading the tale, the children performed an engineering challenge and measured the strength of the 5 bridges and watched how much each bridge would hold the buns. The strongest was the last bridge that withstood 11 buns :-)

    We read the tale, three little pigs.

    Students  created their own story map  and used a series of arrows and visual instrutions to retell the story. They coded the story as they like to retell the story.

    Another task : They made the pictures of the main characters by using old newspapers.

     Technology: They also experinced the augmented reality implementation.

    We read the tale,Su Damlası,this week on online.

    Science: They learnt how to use 'magnifying glass' and they made an experiment by using  a plastic bottle and a drop of water for the experiment. They discovered  to create  a kind of the magnifiying glass from this materials.

    Another task was to think and talk about what kind of things they can observe or do using this magnifiyng glass.

    We told the story "Under the Mushroom".
    Science - we know who grows and lives in the grass. The model was made by our parents.
    ART - we made mushrooms from natural materials.
    TECHNOLOGY - we decode the words in the riddle. We are participating in European Coding Week 2020

     

    We read the fairy tale "The Hedgehog and the Bear".
    SCIENCE: We learn the names of natural materials. From them the parents made the characters of the fairy tale.
    ART: We enjoy the beautiful models, we watch how the materials come together.

       

    The parents voted and chose the most beautiful model and application. Everyone received diplomas for participating in this interesting initiative.

    In the week of October 12-16, we read our book"Autumn" and implemented our stem plan.

    We read the tale of "autumn"

    Science:
    We went outside and observed changes in nature during the autumn season,studying snails and collecting dried leaves.We examined the leaves we collected with our magnifying glasses in class and chatted about their changes and formed ideas.

    Art:

    we painted a tree painting on the theme of the autumn season.

    Drama-Play:
    Where would you like to be by touching the leaves we collect?we had a drama event,followed by Autumn Music, and a dance event, throwing leaves in the air.

    CHESTNUT STORY WITH HEDGEHOG(KİRPİ İLE KESTANE HİKAYESİ)

      

    The story of porcupine and Chestnut was read in the schoolyard with the children.The urchins requested by parents were placed in certain places in the garden, and the children found and examined the urchins with magnifying glasses in their hands.

    After we had an idea about hedgehogs,ronds were made with the Hedgehog song,Our Story was completed with drama and art activity.

    Today, October 7, 2020, we read the fairy tale "The Rooster and the Paints". At the beginning of the story he was white, but he went to the paints and they made him colorful and beautiful. How are colors obtained?
    Science and ART : We did an experiment with mixing different colors. We realized that when colors meet and embrace, a new color is obtained.

    This week we read the book ''Çam Ağacı''

    (Schools have not started because of the Covid-19 yet. So, I did all the program with my students online/ by Zoom)

    we did our lesson online. During the lesson ,we talked about birds and their home in the trees,starting this tale. We discussed  how strong their home in trees is and how can we help them live a better bird house.( Also we focused on the recycling.)

    Science: They thought how strong they could build a bird house and why did you choose a plastic material for this.

    Engineering challenge with a plastic bottle.

    The challenge was to build  a strong bird house  with a plastic bottle. Students did their bird house and left  their house to nature and and trees.

     

    Another task was to explain how they built their bird house. Every students explained each other about  the process of their material and compared their product.

    Technology: They thought whether to build a new bird house that was different from another bird houses.

     

    ŠIAULIAI KINDERGARTEN "PASAKA" (LITHUANIA, teacher Laura)

    This week we read the book "Three little pigs"  and had two tasks:

    1. Engineering challange with 20 toothpicks and two pieces of playdough. The challange was to build such kind of house for a pig, which the wolf will not blow off.
    "The wolf" was a hair dryer, it tried to blow off the house.

    The kids built 4 different houses for pigs, 3 of them were very strong, 1 was blown of wolf.

    2. Another task was to say the fairy tale "Three little pigs" and make sequence with bee-bot.

     

    One more Fairy tale "Wolf and seven goats".

    First of all, we asked pupils to scan QR codes. And they saw heroes of fairy tale "Wolf and seven goats". 

    We read this fairy tale and after that pupils had to make bags for mother goat from tissue and rope. The STEAM challenge was to make such kind of bag that can hold at least two apple.

     

    Third our read book was "The sky is falling".

    It's traditional Lithuanian fairy tale. In this fairy tale are 5 heroes: cat, rabbit, fox, wolf and bear. Our STEAM challenges in this fairy tale:

    1. We asked pupils to build a tower from paper cups, but they must keep the sequence: who was the first heroe in this fairy tale, who the second and etc.

    2. The second task was to do coding activity.

    3. The last task was to color the picture of heroes from fairy tale "The sky is falling" and to do this heroes alive with Quiver Vision program.

    Fourth fairy tale, which we read is "SnowWite and 7 dwarfs". This Fairy tale is known in all the world. Our STEAM activities after we read this fairy tale were:

    1. To do code activity and to find 7 dwarfs.

     

    2. To measure the height of every kid with apples. And to do diagram. To talk, who in our class is the highest and who is lowest. We used apples like unit of measuresment, besauce the apple was used in this fairy tale.

    Tales of "Cat and Rooster" activities. Coding of tasks with QR codes, tracking the fairy tale according to the sequence of pictures with the robot-bitute "Bee-bot" and searching for the characters of the fairy tale among the group's objects and photographing them.

    In October we made 5 steam activity about the 4 fairytale which was liked most by the students in September. Their names are LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER, PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN and PINOKIO.

    1. First steam activity was made at home because of the schools were closed. It was a Math, Engineering and Art activity. The students listened the fairy tale LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD and they colored the little girls coloring page, they made some patterns and they create the girl's basket. They made cylnder and cube baskets.

     

    2. Second steam activity is Engineering activity. The students listened the fairy tale PINOKIO and they build Pinokio's nose with blocks on the face of Pinokio. T

    3. The third activity is Art and Engineering activity. They listened PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN. They made pipers by using pipets according to their lenghts. They played the instruments.

     

    4. The fourth steam activity is Technolgy activity. They listened the fairy tale LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD.The students and the teacher prepared a game by using SCRATCH COMPUTER PROGRAM. The game includes the red head girl, the grandmother'S house and some trees. They learned using mouse by coding the game. 

    5. The fifth activity is Science activity. They listened the fairy tale THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER. They made an experiment which includes that the baleria in the fairy tale. They tried to turn the baleria with the heath of a candle.
