Activity 2: Hidden Messages

  • Now it's time for you to send a hidden message to your partner. This message will be:

    1. a question for your partner to answer (personal information)

    2. a positive sentence for your partner friend or anything else you feel like sharing with him/her.

    3. a riddle as a sphinx would ask // a question about History -as you could be asked in a History lesson by your History teacher ;) (will be sent by post).

You can use ciphered methods ie.each letter in a message is replaced with a cipher letter  or  symbol.

      Methods of writing ciphered messages:

    1.  'ROT1' : rotate one letter forward through the alphabet. For instance the message J MPWF TXFFUT hides " I love sweets".So J becomes I, M becomes l, P becomes  o and so and so forth.

                2. Transposition ciphers: words can be written backwards. For instance "nice to see you here "                          becomes   "ecin ot  ees ouy ereh"

                 3. Caesar Shift Cipher: this  method named after Julius Caesar himself, is actually 26 different ciphers,  one for  each   letter  of the alphabet. Your  partner only needs to be told which Caesar cipher was used in order to decipher your  message. For example if the G cipher is used then A becomes G, B becomes H, C  becomes I, and so on through the  alphabet.

                        4. You can hide your message in a puzzle :http://www.jigsawplanet.com/

                       5.  Invent your own coding system .

After you write your secret message - 1 and 2 - upload it on the interactive wall LINO for your partner to see. Don't forget to send a mail to him/her saying which method you have used or give a hint if the method is yours.

    RIDDLE
