“N@T Natural and Artistic Treasures – Heritages of Highlands”, a marathon co-planned by students regarding the conservation and development of the various natural, agricultural and livestock, artistic and cultural, material and intangible heritages to be found in mountainous areas in Italy.
This venture will take place in the context of educational projects for innovative courses for secondary school students on a territorial basis, using the “Challenge Based learning” approach and methodology and international simulations dealing with themes relating to digital entrepreneurship, global citizenship, encouraging creativity and student-centred activity and careers guidance for the professions of the future (azioni #15, #19, #20, #21 of
the PNSD).
The TRAINING COURSE will consist of two parts:
In the period leading up to the final event, the schools selected to participate in the project will analyse the natural and artistic traits of the local territories in order to highlight critical issues and opportunities for growth, also in accordance with the UN 2030 Agenda Goals. In February the chosen schools will take part in an online activity during which they will receive instructions for producing concise, comprehensive reports on their local situation which will form the starting point for the competitive projects of the final event. The directions provided during the call will be supplemented by digital material on special web channels.
There will be further opportunities to exchange views online.
The final event, which will take place in Varese from 6-8 May 2020, will consist of two separate competitions, dealing with closely linked topics, each with its own methodological approach:
N@T MODE – Natural and Artistic Treasures – Heritages of Highlands
STEAM N@T LAB - Natural and Artistic Treasures – Heritages of Highlands
What is N@T MODE?
It is a competition in Italian and English whose objective is to motivate students regarding extremely important current themes and challenges, connected with the conservation and development of natural, agriculture and livestock, artistic and cultural, material and intangible heritages which have an impact on the entire national territory with the aim of providing modern, concrete and significant solutions which are also in accordance with objectives 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15 and 17 of the 2030 Agenda.
The work schedule proposes in part the methodological format of simulation in English (role playing simulation) followed by a supplementary stage of planning and prototyping solutions using the Hackathon and Debate model, combining the local and personal aspects put forward by each student with national and international dimensions. In both phases the didactic approach is centred on problem-solving, public speaking and cooperative learning.
What is STEAM N@T LAB?
It is a real and virtual laboratory in which female students are able to overcome the gender stereotyping that considers them at a disadvantage in the study and application of science and technology by means of observation, co-planning and prototyping activities, also in a virtual format.
Starting from the study of real-life situations linked to the topics in question and thanks to the innovative educational experiences of scenarios and challenge based learning, supported by an effective use of new technologies, the students will be able to develop specific scientific and technical skills, while becoming aware of their own abilities and the applications of STEAM subjects to an analysis of present-day and future society from a female point of view.
