The Agrupamento de Escolas Gonçalo Sampaio (AEGS) is situated in Póvoa de Lanhoso, a council with an area of 131,99 km, which has a total population of 165,8121.886 inhabitants. At the present time, there are 1499 pupils and 161 teachers studying and working at AEGS.
The aim of AEGS is to continue to be a part of what Póvoa de Lanhoso has to offer to the future generations: an education that is the basis of responsible, qualified, dynamic and enterprising citizens. Therefore, our motto is “Learn More, Be More”.
Nowadays, the AEGS is composed by a group of schools that comprehends Kindergarten, Primary School and Junior High School. It also offers, as options, Specialized Music Learning and Alternative Curricular Courses in several areas.
Founded in 1970/1971, these schools have been counting on a growing participation of parents in the school life.
The ongoing investment in collaborative work amongst the different school levels and teachers has been permitting to achieve quality education as well as to provide a diversified training offer that satisfies the pupils and the families’ needs.
The AEGS is focused on quality education which begins among the youngsters; is attentive to the characteristics and specific needs of each school levels and of all students; promotes innovation and continuous improvement in educational practices; motivates pupils to an interventional and solidarity citizenship; encourages the involvement of the families in the learning process and includes the community in decision making and activities. Being a multidimensional space where the scientific knowledge and the social dimension complete pupils’ success, the AEGS also bets on the development of several projects and programmes that provide all pupils the opportunities of personal enrichment, full occupation of their free time and different forms of becoming participating citizens.
Opening the school to the local community with the goal of enhancing the different regional institutional offers, our school has maintained, all through the last years, collaborative partnerships with various entities. We have had pupils involved in Erasmus + KA1 internships in different European countries. We have been awarded with several eTwinning European Labels and we were twice recognised as an eTwinning School.
We are aware that it is important for our pupils to develop their personal and professional skills by going abroad, being in touch with new methodologies, cultures, habits, sharing their experiences with their peers and developing the English language. All this contributes to their growth as self-conscious and tolerant European citizens.
Joining the ABE project has everything to do with our teaching process and leadership. It will also be a way to share and develop teaching methods/experiences, enabling our teachers and pupils to disseminate and share at school and local community new teaching and entrepreneurships practices and perspectives, contributing this way to everyone’s enrichment.
