The Third Day - Out of School Day

Mosėdis Stone Museum. Minerals in Jewellery - the museum has a large collection of rocks brought to Mosėdis and other places in Lithuania during the ice age, as well as collections of Lithuanian minerals and minerals (precious stones, semi-precious stones). The museum was visited  to show pupils an example how human can create the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the country. The guide acquainted the participants with the properties of minerals - rarity, transparency, hardness, firmness, unusual appearance, luster, color, to visually introduce counterfeit minerals and the real way they look in natural rock, got acquainted with the minerals stored and exhibited in the museum, reviewed the origin of minerals as crystalline rocks, and were introduced with the non-traditional use of minerals. Creating unique jewelry / bracelets developed  imagination, improved fine motor skills, but at the same time gave  the opportunity to create an amazing piece with  own hands. Only original handmade jewelry helps  stand out from the rest.

The second stop  - the national park’s visitor center in Plateliai.

This place attracted participants with a modern exhibition, which includes touch screens, sound effects, natural games and descriptions of various routes and points of interest.

Inside, our attention was grabbed by the three-dimensional model of Plateliai Lake, which showed the impressive differences in the lake’s depth, which are hard to notice when you are at the lake. By browsing the droplet-shaped windows, we knew the sights of the lake and its surroundings as well as where the names of the islands originated from. After coming up to the second floor, looked up and listened the sounds. We were met by the inhabitants of Zemaitija forests and meadows. we saw the footprint of a hedgehog, we learnt, which birds are the biggest sleepers. In the farthest corner of the room, visited the beaver’s habitat. Listened to the night sounds of forests and tried to guess the names of the plants stored in the colored flasks by smelling them.

Expositions of Žemaitija National Park and Shrove Tuesday

We visited the manor of Plateliai, which is in the former estate Stable and there is founded Shrove Tuesday Museum, in the Barn – a modern historical-ethnographic, nature exposition, exhibition hall. A colorful exhibition of nature offers access to interactive wildlife of Park. Ethnographic exhibition highlights the ancient Plateliai – crafts, entertainments, courtiers and ordinary people’s lives.
