"Gorenjski nagelj" (Ksenja Belina)
The students learned part of the cultural tradition of making rich flowers out of crepe paper. The production of paper flowers has a rich tradition in Slovenia. It appeared in our country in the first half of the 19th century. The skill of making flowers from the paper was associated with the habit of chatting on holidays and major events.
Most often they formed paper flowers into bouquets.
The students learned how to make a traditional Gorenjska carnation, which they took home to their mothers.
For our flowers, we cut 80 cm long and 5 cm wide pieces of crepe paper. Fold the crepe paper in half, then half again and again, until we get about 4-5 folded strips (wide: 3-4 cm).
Cut the folded strip in a semicircle on one side and then we finely cut the edge of the strip. Then we unbend the strip. The first half of the strip that is rounded (chipped), curl it one way with scissors and the second half the other way.
Begin to wrap the crepe paper (strip) into a flower shape, then turn the stripe in a way, that the cut part of it will be turned inwards. Gather the strip and wrap it around the middle part.
Wrap the flower below tightly with wire so that it does not fall apart. Add a wooden stick in the middle. Wrap it with green crepe paper, add two more green leaves and our carnation is finished.
