Zespol Szkol Da Vinci Poland
Da Vinci schools consist of a primary school and a high school. In high school we have 260 students and employ 34 teachers.
One of our main projects is Young Malta Festival - an annual international theatre festival gathering since its first edition six years ago young people from all over Europe. The main aim of the festival is to create a forum for discovering theatre, developing acting and directing talents. The idea of the festival is based on multicultural exchange and integration and focused on building and promoting tolerance, respect and openness to alterity. This year the seventh edition of the festival will bring together over a hundred participants from Poland, Germany, Catalonia, Portugal, Spain, and Ukraine. For them it will be time spent at theatre workshops, while for the audience- twelve performances providing them with incredible emotions and allowing to experience the magic of the theatre.
The school is the initiator of the eTwinning Oxford Style Debate project, which has been successfully functioning for over 2 years. Before we started international online Oxford style debates, our school had gained a lot of experience and expertise in the debates locally. Namely, our teachers received intensive training at workshops devoted to oxford style debates promotion. For several years, our students had been taking part in different local middle school and high school national championships in Oxford style debates in Poland. Knowing its beneficial effects on our students and their achievements, which is for example winning the second place in Poznan Oxford style debates last year, we decided to start thinking internationally. Every semester new partner joined this project. In the online debate project we have cooperated with schools from Germany, Spain, Italy, Croatia and Portugal.
Since the project has attracted a lot of interest, not only from our students but also, from our partner schools, we decided to expand our project into face to face meetings as a logical next step. As leaders and initiators of this project, we have noticed its motivational effect on our students.
Debate is also one of our language activation methods, used during regular language lessons.

Comenius College is a school of secondary education that offers all levels of our national system, meaning from Practical VMBO till VWO. In this campus we have about 2500 students and our scope is regional, combining the city center of Rotterdam, the suburb of Capelle aan den IJssel and the wide countryside of different regions. Our school is specialized in internationalization, bilingual education and we do have excellent arts and exact science departments. We offer a variety of languages like Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish. Most of our students come from the nearby area and countryside, but because of the metro stop in front of the school yet more students come from the Rotterdam City Centre. So we have a mixture of students. We have students from a lot of nationalities, partly of our Dutch history, but also of the latest migration waves. So, we do have a number of students involved in the project coming from other countries, but that’s not a real problem. What is a problem nowadays is, that because of the economical crisis, some families have great difficulties in their daily life. They just have the minimum income and that is for Dutch standdards not that much. All HAVO 4-students of the DRawing class will participate in this project as it is part of their curriculum.
As Rotterdam is a very international orientated city, we as a school would like to offer our students the opportunity to work in international surroundings as well. We think it is very important to let them experience the European Dimension in a lot of aspects and getting to know students from other European countries. The countries involved in this project are very appealing in the minds of our students ( and teachers) and great countries to cooperate with. Beside the topic of water itself, the possibility of mobility's during the project is a great motivation for our students to work on the project. International projects are part of our curriculum and are supported by all: students, parents, teachers, staff and overall staff. In our school we have a task force internationalization.
Our school has started a bilingual department in 2010. That’s another important reason why we focus on international projects like this one. The bilingual stream has reached the examination year, so the stream is completed from year one to year six. So we are proud to be the first school in our region to offer this great possibility to our students. We like to work on international topics that have real meaning for our students and teachers for now and in the future. We think that this topic: Debating is of the utmost importance for our students, because it makes them think over their own way of living..
