CLIL on environment and climate change

  • Purpose: Students of all countries search for and become familiar with important vocabulary on environment and climate change.

    Languages: English & local languages

    Description: In all countries:

    1. CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach was used for the learning and teaching of both content and language.

Within CLIL, language is used as a medium for learning content, and the content is used in turn as a resource for learning languages. (European Commission,2005:2)

    2. Students were asked to search on their own for words connected to the environment and climate change in both English and their native language and also define what they mean.

    3. Teachers along with students created a vocabulary table in class.

    4. A common vocabulary table was created by the cooperation of all partner teachers and was uploaded on Twinspace.

    5. Students learnt the vocabulary and practised it in live meetings and twinspace forums.

    6. The topics of the live meetings were carefully chosen so that the students could use the vocabulary given, in real context and real language and communicate with each other, using their speaking and listening skills.

    7. The same approach was applied to the forum threads, where the students had the chance to express their opinions and ideas, using the vocabulary given and their writing skills.
