Trees represent wisdom, long life and the link between the land and the heavens in most cultures. They serve as spiritual teachers of sorts, and both humans and wildlife are attracted to them for the refuge they provide. In fact, they are the sources of life on Earth, creating the oxygen we need to breathe.Wishing trees (dilek ağacı in Turkish) can be found everywhere around Anatolia and they are very distinctive thanks to the colorful pieces of cloth hanging from their branches. Turkish people believe that these trees can bring them one step closer to their wishes and tie a piece of cloth to tie their wish to the tree. In some regions, however, people hang evil eye talismans instead of cloths.

In Ternopil, Ukraine we also have the Tree of Wishes which is called The Tree of Happiness.
Forged iron tree is 2.7m high and weighs 350 kilograms. This Tree was installed in 2009 on the bank of Ternopil Pond during the Blacksmith Festival.
Holes have already been drilled into the leaves of the tree so that the newlyweds can hang their locks on it, make wishes, and throw the keys into the pond. It is believed that then love will live forever in the hearts of couples and no one will be able to separate them.

In fact, it represents wisdom, long life, and the bond between the sky and the land in the trees. It is one of the indispensables of life. It gives us oxygen, hid it in the shadows of the scorching suns, and sometimes gives us food. Today, it is recommended that we be intertwined with nature and trees to relieve stress and renew our energy. The energy of the trees is always good for us human beings.Trees also reach holiness, they can carry our desires to the sky with their long and strong structures. For this reason, we connect them to the ropes, shoddles or the paper containing our wishes to the energy of our wishes to the tree and the universe will be transmitted.
In Anatolia, color and diversity are important. For this reason, our wish trees are colorful.

Greece - 3rd P.S. Pallini - Fani Karaoli - Tree of Wishes as a fairy tail

Lost among others, in a dense forest, there was a tree. It was perennial, with a trunk as big as a house and branches so long, as if touching heaven. They called it "The Tree of Wishes" and not by accident. It was the gift of the gods to humans. Anyone could go there and make any wish. If someone asked anything with all his/her heart the Tree satisfied his/her request !!!

When we look all around the World, we see that the wish tree belief exists in many socities. Originially this tradition originated from Central Asia to Anatolia and it started with tree or stone Works. When people made a wish, they would visit these sacred places. Then people started to attach fabrics to wish trees. Local people consider some trees sacred and make wishes through their branches, by tying small pieces of fabric.

    Why Tree
In fact, in many societies, tree represents wisdom, long life, the connection between heaven and earth. It is one of the indispensables of life. It gives us oxygen, hides in the shadows of scorching suns, and sometimes gives us food.
In old societies, it was also common to communicate with the tree, talk to it, or cling to the tree to get its energy. Today, it is recommended that we be intertwined with nature and trees to relieve stress and renew our energy. The energy of trees is always good for us human beings.

Trees also reach holiness, and with their long and strong structures, they can carry our desires to the sky. For this reason, we connect them to the ropes, shoddles or the paper containing our wishes to the energy of our wishes to the tree and the universe will be transmitted.

Başak BOSTANCI - Atatürk Secondary School - Eskişehir / TURKEY

Turkish people believed that there is a star at the middle of the sky and this star is North Star. Tree of life roots from the middle of the Earth and connects it to North Star. It symbolizes a gateway between the Earth and hereafter. According to the shamans this connection is as important as a umbilical cord for a fetus. Branches of tree of life are seen as a tool for traveling between the Earth and higher universes. As understood, sky has different layers in Turkish mythology. Those layers and tree of life are presented by knurling a pole made up of beech tree in old times.
Consequently, present day importance of tree is originated from early beliefs of Turkish people.

A wish tree is an individual tree, usually distinguished by species, position or appearance, which is used as an object of wishes and offerings. Such trees are identified as possessing a special religious or spiritual value. The ritual consists of attaching a small piece of cloth around the branch of the sacred tree; and in doing so, a serious and deep wish is made by the person. Wish Tree are also found frequently in Turkey, as in many other countries. The local people think that some trees are sacred and wish to connect small pieces of cloth. These make some trees around Anatolia become a symbol of the hope of the believers by wearing white cloth.

Hıdrellez Day, which is known as Ruz-ı Hızır (day of Hızır), is celebrated as the day on which Prophets Hızır and Ilyas met with each other on the earth. It is celebrated at the night of 5th May. Various traditional activties are held. One of them is to put your wish under the rose tree.Wishes can be written on a sheet of paper and hung under the rose wood. You can draw a picture of a house wishing a house, a picture of a car wishing a house. The first thing on the morning of Hıdırellez is to go to the bottom of the rose tree and take those notes and leave them in the water.

Wish trees are an important figure in Turkish mythology and folklore and is still respected among common people today. The Tree Wishes in Kyiv, Ukraine
"Forged Iron Tree of Wishes” appeared in 2014 in Kyiv. There is a nest with eggs and a chicken at the root of the tree. There are apples on branches of the tree.
The text on the tree says: "Dream and your life will be full of miracles! If you want to gain wealth you need to touch the chicken. If you want to stay young, you need to rub the apple. If you want to fulfil your wishes, you need to leave a note in the hollow. Instructions for the fulfillment of desires are on the tree.

Ouk tree in Lithuania (Regimantas Kaikaris)

The Stelmužė Oak (Lithuanian: Stelmužės ąžuolas) is an English (Pedunculate) oak tree which grows in the former Stelmužė Manor park by Stelmužė [stεɫˈmʊʒeː] village, Lithuania.

The oak measures 3.5 m in diameter and 13 m in girth at its widest part; being 2.8 m. and 9.58 m at waist level. The oak reaches 23 m in height with only side branches remaining alive. It is believed to be at least 1,500 years old, possibly, as much as 2,000 years old; this makes it the oldest oak in Lithuania and one of the oldest in Europe. However, exact age measurements are difficult, as the inner part of the trunk has been removed.

In 1960 the oak was declared a natural monument and included in the list of protected objects in Lithuania.

According to legend, Perkūnas was worshipped beneath this tree by pagans.

Oak is identified in Lithuania as a strong man.

The wish-tree is not an element of Romanian culture, nor is it found in the Hungarian tradition. But the tree of life is present in mythology. In folk tales, the fruit of the tree is the golden apple.
Nowadays, the wish tree is the accessory for trendy weddings.

The Concept of Tree of Life in Various Cultures The first “Tree of Life” depictions in the history of mankind are found in the Hittite and Assyrian seals.

One of them is Fahrettin Razi's interpretation that Tuba is a tree planted in Heaven by God, and its branches are seen even after the walls of Heaven and the root of Hz. It is stated that he was at the house of Mohammed. Hz. According to the rumors that Muhammad was told by him, a branch extends from the trunk of the tree in the house of the Prophet to the house of every believer. Thus, a spiritual bond is established between the Ummah and the prophet. This depiction parallels the concept of the great tree that spiritually unites all the beings in the world mentioned in aminist and shaman sources and provides universal balance.

________________________________________ The Place of the Tree of Life in Art The Tree of Life, which has been envisioned by humans for thousands of years as the link between the underworld (the world of the dead), the earth (the material world) and the sky (the floor of the god), has inspired numerous works of art because of this feature. Especially in old iconographies, the "Tree of Life" is symbolized as the house of God. God leaves here and offers food and drink to those around him. In Sumerian and Assyrian building decorations, it stands out as a worship item.

Hatice Yavuzyılmaz Yıldıztepe İlkokulu Bağcılar İstanbul Turkey

In Islamic Art, depictions of "Tree of Life" are mostly found in building decorations. In the Umayyad Palace in Spain, depictions of the tree are found in the "Great Mosque" in Kurtoba. In Turkish works, the "Tree of Life" is depicted as fruitless, depending on the principle that God was not born and did not give birth. The reliefs in Divriği Ulu Mosque and Erzurum Yakutiye Madrasa can be given as an example of the effect of the tree in the Anatolian Selçuk building decoration art.
