  • THE PROJECT SUMMARY

We produced this project in which planned and systematic activities were carried out in order to motivate our students to reach their goals. Our main goal was to teach students the importance of motivation. We were aware of the importance of the teacher-student-parent triangle. As a result of the initial training activity, our teachers realized that motivation is a useful tool for improving students' school experience, their attitudes towards their own learning, and their future prospects. “How can I guide my child to reach his goal?” The presentations on the subject helped raise awareness among parents and guide their children. “How to set a goal?” Presentations were made to students and parents.

We carried out the following activities:

We organized a corridor as a "project corridor" in order to raise awareness of students and exhibit project activities. We ensured the monitoring and follow-up of the project.

Motivating words were hung in the corridors as part of the panel works. Success stories were posted on the project board. A motivation library was created and a reading time was held. By hanging the blackboard, the students were able to share the sentences they liked from the books they read.

A poster competition with the theme "Here is my purpose" was held. Students designed posters using their creativity for their purposes. Prizes were awarded to the winners. All of the posters were displayed in the project corridor to make all students feel valued.

Motivation-enhancing films were watched, emphasizing the importance of effort appropriate to the age of the students and not giving up. Music was broadcast during recesses. A picnic was organized for the students to play team games and have positive feelings towards the school. Motivational conversations were held with people who achieved their goals and wishes. Seeing concrete examples gave hope to our students and stimulated their willingness to work.

All teachers in our school were given coaching training to create a general awareness about the project. This training was given by one of our school teachers, Nilüfer ÇIRAGÖZ, who is a professional training coach. Our teachers coached the students and guided them on issues such as getting to know themselves and setting goals. At the end of the project, students who achieved their goals were given a "Motivation Specialization Certificate". This document is proof that they have achieved their goals and have the ability to motivate. The student realized that with this tangible material he could develop his abilities and expand his knowledge. The desire to obtain this certificate has been an incentive for students to achieve success.

With the goal tree activity, students wrote their academic, social, sportive or personal goals on cards and hung them on the tree. Photos and videos taken during the activity were turned into a movie. This activity; It is important because it embodies an abstract concept. At the end of the project, the percentage of students reaching the goal was calculated. We found that more than 80% of students achieved their goals in whole or in part. This rate was higher in our partners. The reasons for this are the long break in education in Turkey due to the pandemic, the lack of infrastructure and equipment for live lessons, and the negative effects of the Izmir earthquake.

At the beginning and end of the project, we applied the Academic Motivation Scale to the students. We obtained digital data on motivation levels. As aimed in the project, we and our partners achieved the result that the motivation score averages of the students increased and the motivation point average decreased. This result is an indication that the project activities are working.

Project magazine was prepared. Motivation Academy Blog, facebook and instagram pages were created to exhibit, follow and share the results. This allowed students to share their experiences. It was useful for students. It also contributed to the recognition and dissemination of the project.

Since the project was success-oriented, it had academic, social and psychological effects on students. The same activities produced similar results on students, as the project partners also worked on similar age groups. Thanks to each study carried out within the scope of the project plan, the students understood the importance of motivation in achieving success. They have integrated it into their lives and will use it for the rest of their lives. They will use this knowledge and experience in their high school and university education and in their professional life. This is an acquisition with high added value.

Awareness of motivation developed in schools. As the activities took place in a way that included most students in the school, students from all grades and levels were reached. As students advanced, they carried this culture to the lower classes. We plan to implement the "Project corridor", "Clipboard studies", "Motivating book reading hours" and "Target tree" activities that embody the concept of goal every year, especially in which students are active and are beneficial for self-realization. We plan to continue our motivation coaching activities as it is the key point. Even if the project is over, this culture will continue.
