A2. Biking the town centre

  • Biking the Towncentre

Team GuGy cycles 16,085 km through the city

The city of Bergheim took part in the nationwide campaign Stadtradeln 2020. The aim is to cover as many everyday distances as possible by bicycle in 21 days in a climate-friendly way.

Climate protection is an important topic, especially for schoolchildren.
As a participant of the Erasmus Project "My heritage- our future" and on our way to the UNESCO project school it was a matter of course for us to take part.
We think it's great that you can also get exercise, get fit and stay healthy, and discover the city!

Team GuGy pedaled hard for 3 weeks. So we could make an active contribution to climate protection and save 2364,5 kg CO2. Our goal, the result of 2013 with 1,371.8 kg CO2, we have thus clearly surpassed.

With 121 cyclists, Team GUGY was the largest team in Bergheim. Many students rode their bikes to school instead of the bus, even in bad weather, to collect kilometers. But also the trip to the training was done by bike, fed up with the parents' car. Some classes formed their own teams. We received support in our team from parents, siblings, alumni and the families of our colleagues in our team. On weekends we even took extra bicycle tours to collect kilometers.

On the round tour 'Bergheimer Acht' we explored all districts of Bergheim with their sights (for example the castle of Paffendorf, the water castle Geretzhoven and the windmilll of Büsdorf). We were very surprised by some of the sights.

As a prize for this great team effort our school gets an insect hotel for our school garden. Another step towards GuGy goes Green.
