WELCOME

  • This is an eTwinning project designed for 6-11 years old students. Project's main aim is celebrating Pi day with different countries.

The 14th of March is a day that is celebrated as Pi Day. We want to celebrate it together on the international level and share our experiences and ideas.

Today, due to the rapidly developing educational technologies and the rapidly changing student profile, it is no longer a must to try new education methods especially when studying mathematics. The fact that mathematics lessons are perceived as difficult, incomprehensible and unsympathetic for most students, it requires teachers to evaluate this process differently. In order to change this perception in our school, Pi Day was taken as basis and both the meaning and importance of pi number was emphasized and learning process was made fun with various activities.

    PROJECT AIMS:

1)To change the believe that mathematics and English lessons are difficult, incomprehensible and unsympathetic,

    2)Improving English language skills,

3)Having the opportunity to cooperate with different countries,

4)Learning english and math in an enjoyful environment,

5)To teach the importance and meaning of Pi number,

6)To start using technology in the classroom,

    PROJECT METHODS:

Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge.

Student-centered learning, also known as learner-centered education, broadly encompasses methods of teaching that shift the focus of instruction from the teacher to the student

Personalized learning is an educational approach that aims to customize learning for each student's strengths, needs, skills and interests. Each student gets a learningplan that's based on what he knows and how he learns best.

Multiple evaluation techniques such as observation, performance assignment, open-ended questions were also used in the measurement and evaluation of pre-survey and final questionnaire measurements as well as observation, performance assignment and students' knowledge, skills and attitudes.

    WORK PROCESS:

    1) First activity is to get to know each other: Introductions of partner schools, cities and countries by using WORDART and creating wordclouds. The students start to use web 2 tools and create posters or presentations about Pi day.

    2) Second activity is designed as useful activity. The students search about pi number and pi day. Then they create posters and powerpoints for presentations. The students were taught by doing-living. Students were given the opportunity not only to consume technology, but to produce them.

    3) Third activity is drawing and painting pi day t-shirts, plates etc.

    4) This activity is both fun and useful for the students. It is about celebrating the pi day with various activities.

    5) Fifth activity is about using web 2 tools and creating online games at school. The students create and exchange online math games with each other and they play them all together.

The students also prepare exhibitions about pi day at their schools.

    6) Last activity is project evaluation and we have a pre-test / Final test to evaluate the results.
