Activity #3 DROWNING IN PLASTIC - Discussion on the documentary
This documentary shot across the globe, from North America to Asia; and from Europe to Australia; shows a wildlife biologist Liz Bonnin visiting communities suffocating by plastic waste, and scientists working at the cutting edge of plastics research. She explores how plastic in our oceans is one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time, calling for the urgent addressing of this global crisis.
Students were shocked after realizing that plastic never disappears, that it just breaks down into smaller pieces and that every marine animal (from the smallest plankton to the largest mammals) was affected by it.
The documentary also started a heated discussion about what could be done and whether we are falling terribly behind on this matter.
