International Mother Language Day in Tamsalu Gymnasium, Estonia

  • During the LTTA3 in March 2020 one of the teachin, training and learning activities was the celebration of International Mother Language Day.

    Each country presented their mother tongue. Estonian school also had a presentation on the Russian language as it is the mother tongue os several students at school. The teacher of Estonian presented the South Estonian dialect and the Seto language.

    The result of the group work was an online phrasebookwith audio of the most common phrases in Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese and Estonian.

    Estonia celebrates Mother Tongue Day on 14 March. The day is devoted to the Estonian language and its survival. We celebrated the day playing “Jeopardy”. The questions were about Estonian films, proverbs, writers, foreign words and characters from literature.

    On 20 March 2019, we celebrated International Mother Language Day.

    The guests were from Syria, Kurdistan and Pakistan. They introduced the native languages and culture of their countries.
