The project schedule

  • 1918: my family, my town, my country

In this project teenagers from European countries will follow their family histories related with 1918 - the year that not only finished the Great War but also began a new era in Europe. They will try to find out the histories of their grand-grandparents : where they lived, if they were involved in the War, how their life was changed. We will put our stories into an interactive map and compare our family histories. The project will take about 8 weeks (October-November).

    The project aimes:

    - reflection over the Great War and its consequences in the life of common people

    - developing more personal attitude to the events of 1918 in Europe

    - sharing histories and experiences of the pupils' families from different regions in Europe

    - giving the students wider than only national perspective of the events in Europe in 1918

    Stage one:

    Deadline PL: 20.10

    The schools’ presentations

A Powerpoint online presentation is published with  - each student prepares one slide

    - interactive map of birthplaces of the ancestors who will be described in the project

A Pictra map is created and published

    - usage of Pictra Map

    Instructions of Pictra maps usage

    Stage Two:

    Deadline PL: 6.11

    - pupils work individually or in pairs. They make research about their ancestors and publish presentations about their grand-grandparents and their history

I recommend using only on-line tools like Prezi, Emaze, Google slides, Powerpoint online, YT, Vimeo. That enables us to embed the presentation directly into the Twinspace or the map

    Stage Three:

    Deadline PL: 19.11

    - The presentations are read by all the participants. Students are looking for the characters whose history is similar to their grand-grandparents in one or more aspects: gender, profession, geography, etc.

We use eTw forum to share our reflections

    - Statistics about the characters are being created and presented by the students, according to the features they find most interesting. Students work in small teams.

Twinspace pages are created about particular features of the characters. Students chose one team and work in small international teams.

    - A common presentation is being developed as a map with links to all the family stories told in the project.

The Pictra map (or a map in Prezi) is published with links to all the student’s presentations. Every teacher coordinates posting her students’ presentations.

    Results:

    The 1st of December
