Dear Friends,
We are writing this letter in order to explain to you the meaning of the symbols in our mystery list.
The Pomegranate is traditionally considered fruit that brings good fortune, eugenics and plenty of goods to our home. This is why it dominates our table during Christmas and New Year's Eve. Tradition wants us to break the pomegranate every new year to ensure wealth, well-being and prosperity throughout the year.
The tree is decorated with garlands, ornaments and lights. The first tree in modern Greek Era was decorated in the palace of king Otto.
We put the star at the top of the tree and it symbolises the star that led the three wise men to the manger of baby Jesus.
The ship is the traditional symbol of Greece since ancient years. The everyday life of people is revolved around the liquid element. In almost every family there is a sailor, a captain or a ship mechanic. We decorate a ship model with lights at Christmas.
Finally, at Christmas we make a lot of sweets such as melomakarona (a honey flavoured dessert) and kourabiedes (an almond flavoured, crisp bun similar to a macaroon) .
We send you a few recipes and we would like to learn more about your mystery list! Please write to us.
With love,
