  • IES EL BROCENSE (SPAIN)

The Secondary School “El Brocense” is the oldest one in Extremadura. It was built in 1839 by the Queen Maria Cristina de Borbón. For many years, IES “El Brocense” was the only secondary school in the town where many generations of inhabitants of Cáceres were educated. This year we are celebrating its 175th aniversary and its 50th present location aniversary.

Many renowned teachers have taught in its classrooms and later quite a few students have stood out in different fields of knowledge. This school was named “El Brocense” after a great humanist from Cáceres, Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas, who was a distinguished professor at Salamanca University. Since 1965 its location has been in the centre of the town. Its installations have been distributed in three levels and they are organized in different buildings separated by open spaces with gardens and sports facilities among them.

In the current year there are 1400 students enrolled and 100 teachers. This School has been taking part in different European programmes for a long time; as our main purpose is working to improve the academic and human quality of our students at every level in order to prepare them for the future.

High  school in Kalisz Pomorski (POLAND)

Our school is named after Memory of The Victims of Terrorist Attacks of the September 11, 2001. The School was named that to commemorate the people who died during terrorist attacks in the USA.

The school is located in the center of our town, near the lake. In this school there are 292 students and 29 teachers. Every day our students commute to school from neighbouring villages  and towns, but over 100 of them live in a boarding-house.This is the only high school in our town.

The building of our school dates from the end of the 19th century. It is a specific red brick building, and it immediately catches the eye of those who come to our small town for the first time. Before the II World War, it was a German school, and Polish school has been founded here in 1948. At the beginning, it was only a primary school, but over time it transformed into a high school and the primary school has been moved to another building. The first Polish director and founder was Jan Sujkowski.

In the premises of our school we have a so-called “Intelligent Garden” created by students, they can spend breaks there. This school participates has participated in many European projects for a long time. Our school offers a wide range of additional activites: English and German courses, drama classes, photography workshops, economy classes, graphic design, etc.

Some general information about our school:

Our school is one of three schools in the vocational school center of Schwäbisch Gmünd. Our school is called Kaufmännische Schule and is quite big. The school was built in the 1970’s. Our vocational school center includes four buildings with a total of 3600 students. 1080 of those students go to the Kaufmännnische Schule and there are 75 teachers. The headmistress is Mrs. Stephan.  Our school is divided into four types of schools. We are at the Wirtschaftsgymnasium (commercial high-school), where we learn all the basics of economy. We are 360 students. In every grade there is also one international class, which has several bilingual subjects. At the school there are three grades and if the students have absolved them they will achieve the A level and then they are able to study at the university.

Why we like our school and why it is worth a visit:

We like our school because all our teachers are very motivated and friendly. The climate within our school is full of respect and it’s a very nice atmosphere there. In the cafeteria you can buy lovely food, which is very good. We also like the location of our school because it’s next to a forest and it’s located on a wonderful hill, called the Hardt which even has its own catchprase: “The Hardt is the sunny hill of our town.”

    KEMIN LYSEON LUKIO (FINLAND)

The name of our secondary school in Kemi is Kemin lyseon lukio. It was founded in 1897 so it is 117 years old. Nowadays we have about 350 students who are 16-19 years old and the studies take three years. We have also 30 teachers. Students are independent and they can choose whatever subjects they want to study. We have opportunity to study many languages like English, Spanish, German etc. Kemin lyseon lukio is one of the oldest secondary schools in northern Finland and the only one in Kemi.

The final goal for the students is the national matriculation examination. It’s the end of the studies at the senior secondary school. After you graduate from senior secondary school you can go study at universities or polytechnics.

Our secondary school gives us a gateway to the academic studies at universities or polytechnics. But our school also encourages its students to think critically and to adapt the idea of lifelong learning. It’s not just preparing for further education.

We have many fun events in our secondary school. For example when we are in the second class we have a dance party in February. We have the dance party because the third class will go out of the school because they have a reading holiday. They have to prepare for the national matriculation examination. So because they go to the reading holiday the second class will be the oldest one in our school. The second class celebrates that by dancing in primary school, in our secondary school and in the evening they will dance in hall to everyone. We call that day a princess day because girls have a princess dress and they look like barbies. And boys are handsome when they wear suits.
