    The University of Alcalá was founded by Cardenal Cisneros in 1499. 

    The city of Alcalá de Henares was created to be a 'university city', the first in the world.
      
    The university was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, for having 'outstanding universal value' and 'historic interest'.

    The Miguel de Cervantes Prize, based at University, is awarded every year by the King and Queen of Spain to an outstanding writer in the Spanish language.

    It’s famous for producing some of Spain’s greatest writers, including Lope de Vega,, Quevedo, Tirso De Molina, Mateo Alemán, Pedro Calderón de la Barca...
